A decent roof over the head!!

175 nomadic families were provided tarpaulins by Yuva Unstoppable

Isn’t it a dream every individual weaves??

However, it remains an elusive dream for many.

During monsoons, the living conditions of homeless turn bad to worst. As most of these families have open to air kitchens, the constant pouring of rains and leaking roofs  makes it difficult to cook a decent meal. The wood turns wet, the tarpaulin roof leaks from multiple places, a large tin pan is layered with bricks and some wet wood placed into it to cook what we might call a one-pot meal (so at least the children have something to eat).The value of a roof over the head can be comprehended only when one empathises with the plight of the homeless.

We have been appealing the government for allotment of residential plots to thousands of such nomadic families. Our Prime Minister has dreamt of providing a house to every homeless of our country by 2022. It is important that the administrative wing owns up and joins with full might to make this dream a realisation.

Until that happens this roof had to be repaired.

Pavanbhai, the ever enthusiastic volunteer from Yuva Unstoppable called up to inquire if any of our families needed tents. We shared the details of such families of which 175 were provided tarpaulins.

દરેક વ્યક્તિ પોતાના માથે પાકી છતનું સમણું સેવે

પણ આ દેશમાં એવા કેટલાય કમભાગી માણસો છે જેમને આવી છત નસીબ નથી..

ચોમાસામાં ઘરવિહોણા લોકોની હાલત અત્યંત દયનીય હોય છે. રાંધવા લાકડાંય ન મળે. વળી ઘણી વખત તો છાપરાંમાથી પાણી ચાલ્યું જતું હોય એવા વખતે ખાટલાં પર તબકડાંમાં ત્રણ ઈંટોનો ચુલો બનાવી ભીના લાકડાંથી માંડ માંડ ચુલો ચેતવવા કોશીશ કરી આપણે જેને વન પોટ લંચ કહીએ એવું રાંધવા કોશીશ કરે જેથી બાળકો ભૂખ્યા ન રહે..

ઘરનું સુખ શું હોય એ આવા પરિવારોની સ્થિતિ જોઈએ ત્યારે સમજાય..

અમે તો આવા હજારો પરિવારોને રહેવા પોતાની જગ્યા મળે તે માટે સરકારમાં રજૂઆત કરી છે. આપણા વડાપ્રધાન શ્રીએ આવા તકવંચિતોને 2022 સુધીમાં સૌને પોતાનું ઘર મળે તે માટેનું સ્વપ્ન સેવ્યું છે.. આ સ્વપ્ન પૂર્ણ કરવા રાજકીય ઈચ્છાની સાથે વહીવટીપાંખની ઈચ્છા ભળે – અધિકારીગણ સક્રિય થાય તે જરૃરી..

ખેર ત્યાં સુધી તો આ તંબુડાંની મરમ્મત કરવી રહી.

યુવા અનસ્ટોપેબલના ઉત્સાહી કાર્યકર પવનભાઈનો ફોન આવ્યો, આપણા પરિવારોને તંબુની જરૃર છે જો હોય તો વિગતો આપો. અમે ઘણા પરિવારોની વિગતો આપી જેમાંથી 175 પરિવારોને યુવાએ તારપોલીન આપી..

At 40 Kankuben is already a grandmother. “We were married so young. I was just 15 years old at the time of my marriage. Bhavesh and Gopal were born soon after. We also got Bhavesh married when he was barely 20 years old. The couple gave birth to daughter Jhanvi and very soon there were cracks in their marriage. Separation and Divorce followed. Jhanvi remained with me, I am her mother now.” Kankuben shared the story of her life and maybe of many women in her community.

Jhanvi is Kankuben’s heartbeat. It is difficult to not fall in love with a cute baby who was always besides Kankuben whenever she visited VSSM’s office.

Kankuben resides in Ramdevnagar, a Bawri community ghetto/settlement in Ahmedabad. “Ben, look at our settlement, the muck around it. We have spent our life here but would wish for a better life in some other neighbourhood for my sons and Jhanvi.” Kankuben had shared once whilst we were discussing the need to provide better housing opportunities to this community. It is a long and arduous track to a better life. The community too needs to inculcate positive habits, one of which is saving their hard-earned money. “How do we save when we barely earn to make the two ends meet?” they would argue.

The Sukanya Scheme by the Government encourages families with two daughters to open an account with the Post Office or designated nationalised Bank.  The family can save a minimum of Rs. 1000 to a maximum of Rs. 1.5 lacs under the scheme. The interest rates are high under this scheme.  Also, the amount cannot be withdrawn at the will or fancy of the parents/guardian but only for education or marriage of the daughter (I shall write more on this scheme later).

The women of Ramdevnagar were informed about this scheme, with the assistance from VSSM’s Madhuben,  Kankuben and many other women opened accounts in the name of their daughters. I was hoping that the women will deposit about Rs. 1000 annually but to my great surprise, they began with Rs. 1000 monthly.  Kankuben too was one of them, “I toil from morning to evening especially for my Jhanvi. I want to educate her, I want to give her a beautiful life, I will need money to give her that, so these savings are for her!!” Kankuben shared as she showed me the bank passbook for Sukanya Scheme.”

કંકુબેન ચાલીસના માંડ હશે. આવડી નાની ઉંમરે એ દાદી. એ કહે, ‘અમારામાં પેહેલાં નાનપણમાં પરણાવી દેતા. મારા લગનેય પંદર સોળ વર્ષે થયેલા પછી ભાવેશ અને ગોપાલ બે દીકરા આવ્યા’ ભાવેશના લગ્ન પણ કંકુબેને વીસ વર્ષની ઉંમરે કર્યા. ભાવેશના ઘરે જાહનવીનો જન્મ થયો અને પતિ પત્ની વચ્ચે માથાકૂટ થઈ. પછી બેઉંના છૂટાછેડા થયા. નાની જાહનવી દાદી પાસે જ રહી. જો કે એ તો કંકુબેનને જ પોતાની મા સમજે..

જાહનવી કંકુબેનનો જીવ. આમ પણ એ પરાણે વહાલી લાગે એવી મીઠડી. હંમેશાં દાદીનો હાથ પકડી અમારી ઓફીસ આવે.

અમદાવાદના રામદેવનગરમાં કંકુબેન રહે. એ કહે, ‘બેન આ રામદેવનગરમાં અમે કેવામાં રહીએ.. આવામાં મારી જીંદગી તો ગઈ પણ મારા છોકરાં અને આ જાહનવીની જિંદગી સુધરે એવું કાંક કરવું છે’

અમે વંચિતો સાથે કામ કરીએ અને સૌને તેમની દરિદ્રતામાંથી બહાર નીકળવા માટે તેઓ જે કમાય તેમાંથી થોડીક બચત કરવાનું કહીએ. બચતની વાત આવે ત્યારે દલીલો ઘણા કરે તાવડી તડાકા લેતી હોય ત્યાં બચત ક્યાંથી થાય? છતાં અમે બચત પર વધુ જોર આપીયે.

સરકારની દીકરીઓ માટેની સુકન્યા યોજના જે અંતર્ગત જે કુટુંબમાં બે દીકરી હોય એ લોકો આ યોજના અંતર્ગત પોસ્ટ કે સરકારે નક્કી કરેલી બેંકમાં ખાતુ ખોલાવી શકે. અને વર્ષના ઓછામાં ઓછા 1000 અને વધુમાં વધુ દોઢલાખ બચાવી શકે. આ રકમનું વ્યાજ સારુ મળે વળી આ રકમ તમે જ્યારે જોઈએ ત્યારે ઉપાડી ન શકો. પણ દીકરીની ચોક્કસ ઉંમર થાય ત્યારે તેના ભણવા અને લગ્નના ખર્ચ માટે તે ઉપાડી શકાય. રામદેવનગની બહેનોને અમે આ યોજના સમજાવી અને કકુંબેન જેવી ઘણી બહેનોએ પોતાની લાડલીઓના ખાતા VSSMના અમારા કાર્યકર મધુબહેનની મદદથી સુકન્યા યોજનામાં ખોલાવ્યા. મને હતું આ ખાતામાં વર્ષના 1000 ભરશે. પણ આશ્ચર્ય વચ્ચે કેટલાકે તો મહિને 1000 ભરવાનું કર્યું. કંકુબેન પણ એમાંના એક. એમણે કહ્યું,

‘સવારે વહેલાં ઊઠીને મજૂરી કરુ તે મારી જાહનવી હાટુ જ. એને સારુ ભણાવવી છે એની જિંદગી સરસ બને એ માટે પૈસાની જરૃર તો પડવાની તે આ બચત એના નામની’ એવું કંકુબેને હસતા હસતા સુકન્યા યોજના અંતર્ગત ખોલાવેલી ખાતાની પાસબુક બતાવતા કહ્યું.

ત્રેવડ એ ત્રીજો ભાઈ કહેવાય… બસ આ ચીજો સમજીએ તોય જીવન થોડું ઓછુ દુષ્કર બનશે..

કંકુબેનની જાહનવીને ઉત્તમ જીવન આપવાની ભાવના બર આવે એવી શુભેચ્છા…

Meerkhan is his name!!

I never go into the details of someone’s caste and faith, I knew Meerkhan belonged to Hindu Vansfoda Vadi community so how come he was named Meerkhan?
“My father must have liked this name hence, I was named Meerkhan!” he responded to my curious question of who had named him!!
Isn’t that amazing?
To me this what it means to be an Indian.
Meerkhanbhai and other Vansfoda Vadi families living at Una in Banaskantha’s Kankrej practised the occupation of basketry,  but the ever-increasing cost of bamboo as a result of declining forests made the baskets dearer thereby increasing the use of plasticware.
Meerkhan and most in his community shifted to selling plasticware instead of leaning on bamboo products.
The trading required them to commute to neighbouring villages and towns, walking to these regions meant they spent precious time in commute rather than doing business.
Meerkhan requested for an interest-free to help him buy a tempo automobile. VSSM sanctioned a loan of Rs. 50,000, the sum was used to pay the down payment for the auto seen in the image. He then requested Rs. 50,000 to expand his business, VSSM approved that amount too. The business flourished and Meerkhan paid off the loans he had taken from VSSM and a private finance company.
A couple of months back,  I was in Una where I happened to meet Meerkhan, with great joy he showed me the tempo than he had bought from VSSM’s support.
What are your dreams? I asked
A  pucca house in Shihori! he replied.
Even the birds aspire to build a secured nest,  isn’t it obvious humans too would wish for a decent roof over their head?  
નામ એમનું મીરખાન
સામાન્ય રીતે હું કાંઈ જાત પાતમાં માનુ નહીં એટલે કોઈને એ સંદર્ભે કશું પુછુ નહીં પણ મીરખાનભાઈને હું જાણતી એ પ્રમાણે તેઓ હીંદુ વાંસફોડાવાદી સમાજના તો નામ કેમ મીરખાન?
નામ કોણે પાડ્યું એવું પુછ્યું તો કહે, બાપાને ગમ્યુ હશે એટલે પાડ્યું હશે…
કેવી અદભૂત વાત…ગમ્યુ એટલે પાડ્યું..
આમ જુઓ મારા મતે આજ સાચી ભારતીયતા..
મીરખાનભાઈ અને બનાસકાંઠાના કાંકરેજના ઊણમાં રહેતા અન્ય વાંસફોડા વાદી વાંસમાંથી સૂડલાં ટોપલાં બનાવવાનું કામ કરતા પણ જંગલો કપાતા ગયા એમ વાંસ મોંધા થતા ચાલ્યા. પ્લાસ્ટીકનું ચલણ વધ્યું એટલે વાંસની વસ્તુઓ વેચવાનું પ્રમાણ ઘટ્યું.
મોંધા વાંસની મોંધી વસ્તુઓ વેચવાની જગ્યાએ મીરખાનભાઈ અને અન્ય સૌએ પ્લાસ્ટીકના તબકડાં, ડોલ વગરે ખરીદી વેચવાનું ચાલુ કર્યું. પણ પગપાળા ગામડાં ખૂંદવાના આમાં ઝાઝુ રળી શકાય નહીં
એક દિવસ મીરખાનભાઈએ ટેમ્પો રીક્ષા માટે VSSMમાંથી વગર વ્યાજે લોન માંગી અમે આપી..
પચાસ હજાર આપ્યા એમાંથી ડાઉન પેમેન્ટ ભરીને ફોટોમાં દેખાય એ છકડો લીધો. ધંધો વધારવા બીજા પચાસ હજાર માંગ્યા અમે આપ્યા.
ધીમે ધીમે ધંધો વધ્યો ફાઈનાન્સમાંથી અને VSSMમાંથી લીધેલી પૂરી કરી.
થોડા મહિના પહેલાં ઊણ જવાનું થયું મીરખાનભાઈ મળ્યા.
બેન સંસ્થાની લોનમાંથી લીધેલો આ ટેમ્પો એમ કહીને તેમણે હરખથી ટેમ્પો બતાવ્યો.
સ્વપ્ન શું છે? એવું પુછતા તેમણે કહ્યું,
શિહોરીમાં એક સરસ ઘર થઈ જાય તો બસ…
પક્ષીઓ પણ પોતાના માળા બનાવે મૂળ તો સુરક્ષીત રહેવા અર્થે તો માણસ તો આ વિચારે જ…
મીરખાનભાઈનું સ્વપ્ન ઝટ પૂર્ણ થાય એવી અભીલાષા…

VSSM’s support helps nomadic families to earn a dignified living …

As a child Rita had always seen her parents sculpt Ganesha idols hence, celebrating Ganesh Chaturthi is a must for her. It is a festival ingrained in her being. Every time she would account for losses after the festival we would advise her to not get into the business of making Ganesha idols during the next season, she too would pay heed to our recommendation. However, the moment the community would start preparing for the festive season her heart would give in!! “We are Bawri, making idols of the deity is our ancestral occupation, it is difficult for me to give up!” Rita would confess. 
 
“We know the environmental implications of POP idols but it is hard to make Ganesha idols with clay. Also, if we are unable to sell these idols it is hard to store them in our small homes. Hence, Plaster of Paris (POP) works better for us. Nonetheless, this year we decided to make only clay idols, this entire lot here is clay Ganesha. They turn out to be expensive, the returns are not much yet people haggle, with the profits are less. Tell me one thing Ben, do you all bargain when you all go and shop in those glitzy malls?? So why haggle with us? If you stop bargaining, we will not mark up their prices, we earn our bread from it, we too have to sell them, all we need is fair returns for all the hard work we pour in!”
 “This year the corona has inflicted a blow on our businesses. We could not invest in the idol-making this year. But you (VSSM) supported so I am sure it will be fruitful. We are reeling through difficult times Lord Ganesha will bring better days!!”
 We are grateful for the support our well-wishers provide, to allow us to be instrumental in enabling such families to earn a dignified living. The families we mention here are the Bawri community residing in Ahmedabad’s Ramdevnangar settlement and Ritaben is one of the many women entrepreneurs VSSM supports. 
નામ રીટા,
નાનપણથી મા-બાપને મૂર્તી બનાવતા જોયેલા. તે ગણેશચતુર્થી તો કરવી જ પડે એવું બરાબર ઠસ્સી ગયેલું. નુકશાન થાય ત્યારે કહીએ કે આવતી ફેરા ચતુર્થી નથી કરવી. પણ ચતુર્થી આવવાના ચાર મહિના પહેલાં તો મન પાછુ પાતળુ થઈ જ જાય. અમે રહ્યા બાવરી મૂર્તી બનાવવાનું કામ તો બાપ દાદાનું એટલે એમ કાંઈ છુટે?
પ્રદુષણની વાત સમજીએ પણ માટીમાંથી ગણેશ બનાવવા સહેલા નથી અને પાછુ વેચાય નહીં તો અમારા નાના છાપરાંમાં એને સાચવવા બહુ અઘરાં. એટલે પ્લાસ્ટર ઓફ પેરીસનો ઉપયોગ કરતા.
પણ આ ફેરા અમે નક્કી કર્યું માટીમાં કામ કરવાનું તે લ્યો માટીમાંથી ગણેશ બનાવ્યા. માટીમાંથી બનાવેલા ગણેશ મોંધા થાય. લોકો ભાવતાલેય ખુબ કરે. ઘણી વખત મળતરેય બહુ ના મળે..
તે હે બેન, તમે બધા પેલા મોલમાં જઈને ખરીદી કરો ત્યાં તમે પાંચ ઓછા લ્યો એમ કો છો? તો અમારી પાસેથી પાંચ ઓછા કેમ? ભાવતાલ ના કરે તો અમારેય ક્યાં વધુ કિંમત કહીને વેચવા છે? બસ મહેનતનું મળી જાય તો ઘણું.
કોરાનાના લીધે આ ફેરા ચતુર્થી કરવી શક્ય નહોતી પણ દર વખતની જેમ તમે (VSSM) મદદ કરી તે ચતુર્થી ફળશે એ આશાયે કામ કરીએ છીએ.બધે તકલીફ છે જાણીએ છીએ પણ વિધનહર્તા બધુ ઠીક કરશે..
અમદાવાદના રામદેવનગરની બાવરી વસાહતમાં ઘણા પરિવારોને સ્વમાનભેર રોજગારી મળી શકે તે માટે VSSMમાં અનુદાન આપનાર પ્રિયજનોની મદદથી મદદરૃપ થઈ રહ્યા છીએ જેનો આનંદ છે…

Savita Ma gets food with the help of VSSM…

VSSM provides ration kits to elderly woman 

Savita Ma has been living on her own for years, selling trades plastic ware for old clothes and sells those clothes to poor. It was an occupation that enabled her to earn a dignified living. Savita Ma’s son has tuberculosis and stays in a separate house, with his wife takes care of his needs. Living on the banks of a river in Amreli’s Bagasara Savita Ma has never felt the need to ask for support or help as the earning was enough to sustain this lone soul, however, as age catches up her ability to step out and earn has diminished drastically. Age has made her dependent on others for meals.

VSSM provides ration kits to elderly woman

VSSM decided to launch an initiative to support such dependent elderly and destitute individuals in the regions it has been working. The initiative includes providing ration kits to these people. Rameshbhai takes care of 11 such individuals in Bagasara, his compassion and sensitivity reflects in the care he provides to the people under his watch.

For the elderly, surviving with not support is an extremely traumatic experience. Thanks to your help in terms of donations, we have this opportunity of providing support to 80 elderly like Savita Ma.  Grateful for your generosity and faith in us!!

સવિતા માએ વર્ષો સુધી જુના કપડાં ખરીદી ગરીબ માણસોની વચમાં વેચવાનું કર્યું. દીકરો ટીબીનો દર્દી, સવિતા માથી એ જુદો રહે અને તેની પત્ની એની જવાબદારી નિભાવે.

સવિતા મા બગસરામાં નદી કિનારે છાપરાંમાં રહે અને પોતાનો ગુજારો કરે. હાથ પગ ચાલ્યા ત્યાં સુધી એમણે કોઈ સામે હાથ લાંબો ન કર્યો પણ હવે સ્થિતિ બદલાઈ. હવે એમનાથી કામ થતું નથી.
આવા સવિતા મા ને આજુ બાજુ રહેતા માણસો ખાવા આપી જાય તો ખાય એવી સ્થિતિ હતી.
VSSM એવા નિરાધાર વ્યક્તિઓ કે જેમને ખાવાની તકલીફ છે તેમને દર મહિને રાશન આપવાનું કરે.

બગસરામાં રહેતા સવિતા મા જેવા જ બીજા 11 માવતરોને સાચવવાનું અમાર કાર્યકર રમેશભાઈ દ્વારા થાય.

રમેશભાઈ પોતે લાગણીવાળો એટલે આ માવતરોની પૂરી કાળજી રાખે..

પણ ઘડપણ લાઠી વગર ખરેખર કપરુ.. અમે આવા માવતરની લાઠી બનવાનું અમારા પ્રિયજનોની મદદથી કરી રહ્યા છીએ. 80 માવતરોની લાઠી બન્યા છીએ એનો આનંદ.. આમ તો અમે નિમિત્ત માત્ર….

“The Corona induced lockdown has taught us how to lead our lives. You always suggested we adopt a habit of saving, store grains for a year, plan our expenses better, however, for people like us who have never practised leading lives in such organised manner,  your advice was difficult to comprehend. We always kept buying food at the end of the day from the wages that we had earned that day spending Rs 50 – 10 -10 on flour – oil – chilli and likes. We lived in bits and pieces, and we were so used to this way of life that we resisted the change!! The lockdown shut out businesses, finding the next meal was a challenge. Your precious advice started playing in my mind. It would have been such a relief even if I had stocked some wheat and rice. Like beggars, we waited for food during this period. The need to stock food made sense and felt so important. Better late than never!! We decided to consider your advice to stock grains for a year and approached VSSM for a loan to help us do it. After I received the loan, I stepped into a mall for the first time, as some items were cheaper there. Never knew we would end up stepping into a mall in our lifetime. In fact, it is for the first time I have shopped for Rs. 10000 in one go, not only did I buy grains but also containers to store it all. This pandemic has taught us a lot. Now we understand the gravity of word – saving!! I have pledged to become regular at saving. I have started regular saving and that amount helps me pay the loan instalments.”

Ratanben Bawari’s response to the loan VSSM sanctioned cheered us up. And it is not just Ratanben,  all the 200 women who have availed loan for stocking grains share a similar sentiment.  We aspire to settle all these Bawri families living in the Ramdevnagar settlement in proper pucca homes of their own. It is pertinent for them to cultivate the habit of saving regularly as savings will help them with down payments and instalments.

The years of experience of working with some of these poorest communities have taught us that one time support to the marginalised is an easy task but to coax them into making a life-altering shift in their orthodox lifestyles and rigid mindsets take them further in life. ‘કોરોનાના કારણે થયેલા લોકડાઉને અમને જિંદગી કેવી રીતે જીવવી એ શીખવ્યું. તમે હંમેશા કહેતા બચત કરો, વર્ષનું અનાજ ભરાવો, ટૂંકમાં આયોજન શીખવતા પણ અમે આયોજનના માણસો નહીં. રોજનું લાવીને ખાવાવાળા. અમારી એ જ જાણે જિંદગી એટલે તમારી વાત મગજમાં બેસે નહીં. અમારે તો સાંજ પડે અને કમાવીને લાવેલા બસોમાંથી 50 નો લોટ, 10 નું તેલ, 10નુ મરચું…. આવું જ ટુકડા ટુકડામાં જીવવાનું.
આ બધું ગોઠે પડી ગયેલું. તે એમ શાને બદલાય? પણ lockdown ને ધંધા રોજગાર બંધ કરી દીધા. શું ખાવું એ પ્રશ્ન થઈ ગયો. એ વેળા તમે કહેતા એ વાત બરાબર મગજમાં વારંવાર આવી.
વર્ષનું અનાજ આમ તો ખાલી ઘઉં અને ચોખા ભરાયા હોત તોય ભૂખે સુવાનો વારો ના આવત. કોઈ ખાવા આપી જાય એની ભિખારીની જેમ આ સમયે રાહ જોઈ. ત્યારે મગજની બધી બત્તી ખુલી.

જાગ્યા ત્યારથી સવાર. તમારી વાત હવે કાને ધરી. અમે અનાજ ભરવા vssm માંથી લોન માંગી અને સંસ્થાએ આપી. તમને ખબર છે અમે અમુક વસ્તુઓ તો મોલમાં જઈને ખરીદી. ત્યાં સસ્તી પડતી હતી એટલા માટે. જિંદગીમાં મોલનું પગથિયું નહોતા ચડ્યા પણ હવે દુનિયાદારી સમજ્યા.

એકસામટા દસ-બાર હજાર ની ખરીદી ક્યારે કરી નહોતી એ પણ પાછી અનાજ માટે. બહુ બહુ તો હજાર એનાથી વધારે તો અનાજ માટે ક્યારેય ખર્ચ્યા નહોતા પણ સંસ્થાની મદદથી ઘરમાં અનાજ ભરવા માટેના પીપડા આવ્યા અને અનાજ પણ આવ્યું.
હવે બચતની સમજ આવી ગઈ છે. ફરી ભૂલ નહીં કરીએ રોજેરોજ ખાવા પાછળ થતો ખર્ચ હવે અમે ગલ્લામાં નાખીએ છીએ અને એ ગલ્લાના પૈસામાંથી સંસ્થાની લોન ભરીયે છીએ.
સરવાળે અમે તો નફામાં જ રહ્યા’
અમદાવાદના રામદેવનગરમાં રહેતા રતનબેન બાવરીએ રામદેવનગરમાં અનાજ ભરવા માટે આપેલી લોનના પ્રતિભાવમાં આ કહ્યું. સાંભળી રાજી થવાયું. જો કે આ ભાવ અનાજ માટે વગર વ્યાજે લોન લેનાર બસો એ બસો બહેનોનો.
અમારું સ્વપ્ન છે રામદેવનગરમાંથી ધીમે ધીમે આ પરિવારો પોતાના સ્વતંત્ર ઘરો લઈ સરસ જગ્યાએ રહેવા જાય તેવું.
બચતની ટેવ પડશે તો આ ઘર લેવું પણ મુશ્કેલ નહીં બને
તક વંચિતોને આર્થિક મદદ કરી દેવી એ એકમાત્ર ભાવના રાખવા કરતા આર્થિક મદદની સાથે સમજણ આપીએ તો ઉત્તમ પરિણામ મેળવી શકાય છે.
અને આવા સફળ માણસોના હજારો ઉદાહરણો અમારી પાસે છે અને હજુ હજારો વ્યક્તિઓ આ સમજણ થકી ઉત્તમ જીવન જીવે એ માટે અમે કટિબદ્ધ રહીશું.
રામદેવનગરના બહેનોની સાથે સતત પ્રયત્નશીલ, જાતની ચિંતા કર્યા વગર લાગ્યા રહેલા અમારા કાર્યકર મધુબેનનો રોલ બહુ મોટો. એમના જેવા નિષ્ઠાવાન કાર્યકર મેળવવા એ પણ સદભાગ્યે..
સંસ્થાના આ સેવા પારાયણમાં મદદ કરનાર પ્રિયજનોની મદદથી જ આ બધું થઈ શકે છે મદદ કરનાર સૌ હ્ર્દયપૂર્વક આભાર…

Vadia, a village tucked in a remote corner of Banaskantha has always been in limelight for numerous wrong reasons. Since more than a decade VSSM has been striving to make Vadia known for the right reasons. The efforts are focused to positively transform the ground realities of Vadia.

Vadia has been practising the traditional occupation of prostitution for more than 6 decades. The occupation is forced upon the girls once they achieve puberty. However, if the girl decides to get married or is engaged the family does not initiate her into prostitution. VSSM encourages parents of the daughters of Vadia to find a suitable match for the girls and get them married. This year the village hosted weddings of 5 girls. VSSM decided that each of the trousseaus will also include a buffalo so that the girls enjoy some financial independence in their marital home. However, we were unable to gift the buffaloes at the wedding because of its high cost during the period. “The buffaloes are cheapest during Bhadarvo, 11th month of Gujarati calendar!!” Nagjibhai, a community leader from Tharad had advised.

Once Bhadarvo arrived, VSSM’s Shardaben and Nagjibhai persevered to find 5 good buffaloes.

On 23rd September, in the presence of our dear Shri Lal Uncle, we organized a program to gift the buffaloes to these daughters.

We will forever remain grateful to respected Shri Chandrakantbhai Gogari, respected Shri Morari Bapu and respected Sarojben for the support they have provided. It is their encouraging support that has enabled us to achieve some unimaginable goals in Vadia. They have remained instrumental to ensure that hope and happiness reaches the thresholds of Vadia.

બનાસકાંઠાનું વાડિયા બહુ જુદી રીતે પંકાયેલું ગામ.
અમે ગામની સીકલ બદલાય એ માટે પ્રયત્નરત..

ગામમાં રહેતા #સરાણિયા પરિવારોમાં એક નોખો રિવાજ.
જે દીકરીની સગાઈ કે લગ્ન થાય તે દેહવ્યાપારરૃપી નર્કાગારમાં ધકેલાય નહીં. અમે ગામની દીકરીઓ પરણે એને પ્રોત્સાહન આપીએ.આ વર્ષે કરેલા પાંચ લગ્નોમાં દીકરીઓને કરિયારની સાથે સાથે તે રોજી રોટી રળી શકે તે માટે ધામેણું આપવાનું પણ કહેલું.

થરાદ વિસ્તારના આગેવાન નાગજીભાઈ કહે,
‘ભેંસો તો ભાદરવા મહિનામાં સસ્તી મળે’
એટલે અમે લગ્ન વેળા અન્ય કરિયાવર સાથે ભેંસો નહોતી આપી. પણ મંડપમાં ભાદરવામાં ભેંસો આપવાની જાહેરાત કરેલી.
નાગજીભાઈ અને કાર્યકર શારદાબહેને લગ્ન કરેલી પાંચે દીકરીઓ માટે સરસ ભેંસો શોધી કાઢી.

ગઈ કાલે અમે આ ભેંસ અર્ણપ અમારા પ્રિય લાલ અંકલની હાજરીમાં કાર્યક્રમ કર્યો.

#વાડિયા ગામની દીકરીઓના લગ્ન ખર્ચમાં મદદ કરનાર આદણીય ચંદ્રકાન્તભાઈ ગોગરી, પૂ. મોરારીબાપુ તથા આદરણીય સરોજબહેનને પ્રણામ એમની મદદથી જ આ બધુ શક્ય બન્યું.
