Tree plantation in Golvi : Returning the Favour to Nature…2

Trees are jewellery our earth adorns. We at VSSM, have nurtured a dream of covering our mother Earth with these jewels.

Until now we have just kept  taking from this provider, the Earth. We never seek her permission. Do we?
An now we realise that it is these jewels that keeps us alive and kicking!!

VSSM has decided to carry out a massive tree plantation drive in Banaskantha. We have decided to begin with villages that are aware about the activities of VSSM.

Villagers have prepared 1000 pits for planting the saplings

21 villages have been selected in Banaskantha for the first phase of the community partnered tree plantation drive.

Yesterday we were at Golvi village. The sarpanch, Shri Dashrathbhai is very enthusiastic about the entire initiative.

He has decided on the place for the plantation of trees and also made tree protecting fences. They have already prepared 1000 pits for planting the saplings. Dharmabhai Desai has been assigned the responsibility of caring and nurturing these trees. VSSM and the village will share his remuneration expences.

“If we do not plant the trees now it will become difficult to survive on this planet. We want to turn our village green.

Dharmabhai loves tree and we are sure he will work hard to nurture and raise them.

The prepared pits were a little small, we have asked him to make them a little big.

The entire mission is now keenly awaiting the rains.

We are all praying for rains to arrive
With the hope that each village has its own woods to escape to….

ધરતીમાનો શણગાર વૃક્ષ.. વૃક્ષરૃપી શણગારથી આપણી પોષક ‘મા’ ને સજાવવાના સપના અમે સેવ્યા.

અત્યાર સુધી ‘મા’ને પુછ્યા વગર એની મંજુરી લીધા વગર બસ જોઈતું બધુ લીધા કર્યું.
પણ પછી સમજાયું કે એનો શણગાર જ આપણને જીવાડે.
એટલે નક્કી કર્યું ઘરતીનો શણગાર એવી હરિયાળી વધુ સ્થાપીત કરવી

ગામોમાં જગ્યા વધુ મળે એટલે અમારો ઘરોબો જે ગામોમાં હતો, જ્યાંના લોકો અમારા કામની પદ્ધતિને સમજે તેવા વિસ્તારમાં પ્રથમ વૃક્ષારોપણું કામ આરંભવું.
બનાસકાંઠામાં 21 ગામો પસંદ કર્યા છે. જ્યાં ગામની ભાગીદારીથી વૃક્ષારોપણ કરીશું.

ગઈ ગાલે ગોલવી ગામમાં જવાનું થયું સરપંચ દશરથભાઈ દેસાઈ બહુ ઉત્સાહી.
એમણે વૃક્ષારોપણ માટે જગ્યા પસંદ કરી અને અમારી શરત પ્રમાણે ઝાડની સુરક્ષા માટે ચારે બાજુ વાડની તૈયારી કરી દીધી.

વૃક્ષો માટે 1000 ખાડા કર્યા અને વૃક્ષોના જતન માટે ધર્માભાઈ દેસાઈએ સ્વેચ્છાએ જવાબદારી સ્વીકારી. ગામ અને VSSM બેય મળીને ધર્માભાઈને એમના કામનું મહેનતાણું ચુકવશે.
દશરથભાઈએ કહ્યું, વૃક્ષો નહીં વાવીએ તો જીવવાનું અઘરુ થશે. અમારે અમારા ગામને હરિયાળુ કરવું છે. ધર્માભાઈ વૃક્ષપ્રેમી માણસ છે એ જતન કરશે.

ધર્માભાઈએ ખાડા નાના કર્યા છે અમે ખાડા મોટા કરવા કહ્યું.
એક ઝાપટુ પડે પછી વૃક્ષો લાવવા છે.
બસ મેઘરાજાની પધરામણીની રાહ છે..
મહેર કર કુદરત એવી પ્રાર્થના સાથે..
ગામે ગામ વન ઊભા થાય તેમ ઈચ્છીએ….

Vadia youth takes initiative for the betterment of the village….

“Ben, whenever we are asked which village we belong to, we feel embarrassed to reveal that we belong to Vadia. Out village has always carried a bad image. And we want to change that image, wipe off that stigma. We are ready to work hard and with your support we want to change that image!!”

After our work in Vadia, such words seem like music to our ears. When the youth of the village is prepared to work towards change, one knows for sure that better times lie in the horizon.
In 1963, government had allotted 205 acres of land to the women of Vadia. The land was in such poor condition that the families could never work on it to make it productive. The administration tried giving farming incentives from time to time however, as the efforts were not continuous enough the desired results were never achieved.
Since 2005,  VSSM has been consistently working towards improving the ground realities in Vadia and our persistence has begun  paying off. Vadia, that was once arid and barren now looks lush with green farms all around. The families have also began taking interest free  loans from us to begin cattle farming and dairy.
Bhikhabhai obtained loan from VSSM to buy buffalos. He intends to have a large cattle shade. After hearing the inspiring story of Lalabhai Raval who has had a successful venture with cow rearing and dairy after taking interest free loan from VSSM Bhikhabhai also plans to replicate his model in Vadia with addition of cows to his cattle wealth.
“
Ben anywhere we are,  the waiting cattle compels us to return home by 4 PM. We have to return on time for them, milk them and take the milk to the dairy. Our thoughts are now focused towards our cattle.” Mukesh shared with a smile on his face.
Once the youth of Vadia begins working to earn money the hard way  and the daughters continue to get married, no one from Vadia will face embarrassment to share the name of the village they belong to.
Yes, for sure we will be creating a Vadia of our dreams pretty soon.

‘અમે કોઈ ગોમમાં જઈએ અન ગોમના કોઈ પુસ ક ચોના તો અમે કહી નઈ હકતા ક અમે ચોના સીએ. બેન ગોમની જે ખરાબ સાપ પડી હ ઈન ભૂંસવી હ.
તમે સાથ આલો અમે મેનત કરશું પણ હવ ગોમની સાપ બદલાવવી હ એ નક્કી.’
વાડિયાના ભીખાભાઈ અને મુકેશની વાત સાંભળી રાજી થવાયું.
ગામના યુવાનો કામ કરતા થાય તેનાથી રૃડુ શું હોઈ શકે?
વાડિયામાં રહેતી બહેનોને સરકારે 205 એકર જમીન 1963માં આપેલી પણ બાવળના જંગલથી ભરી પડેલી આ જમીન પર તેઓ કશું કરી નહોતા શક્યા.
સરકારે વખતો વખત કોશીશ કરી પણ સતત પ્રયત્નો ના થતા ઈચ્છીત પરિણામ ના મળ્યું.
2005માં પહેલીવાર વાડિયા જવાનું થયું એ પછી VSSM દ્વારા થયેલા સતત પ્રયત્નોના કારણે નક્કર બદલાવ આવવા માંડ્યો છે.
એક વખતનું સુક્કુ ભઠ્ઠ વાડિયા આજે લીલુછમ દેખાવા માંડ્યું છે. લોકો ખેતી કરતા થયા છે અને ખેતીની જમીન હોવાના લીધે અમારી પાસેથી લોન લઈને લોકો પશુપાલન કરતા થયા છે.
ભીખાભાઈ એ VSSMની મદદથી ભેંસો ખરીદી છે. તેમની ઈચ્છા મોટો તબેલો કરવાની છે.
ભેંસો લાવ્યા પણ સંસ્થામાંથી લોન લઈને બે પાંદડે થયેલા લાલાભાઈ રાવળને જોઈને તેમણે ગાયો લાવવાનું પણ નક્કી કર્યું છે.
મુકેશ હસતા હસતા કહે છે,
‘બેન હવ તો બારા ચોક જઈએ તોય ચાર પેલા ઘેર પોંગવાની ચિંતા રે. ભેંસ દોવાની, દૂધ ડેરીમોં ભરાબ્બાનું આ બધા સિવાયના એકેય વિચારો હાલ અમારા મનમોં નહીં હેડતા.’
ગામના યુવાનો મહેતન કરતા થાય, ગામની દરેક દિકરી પરણતી થાય તો અમે વાડિયાના છીએ એવું કહેતા કોઈ વાડિયાવાસીને શરમ નહીં આવે એ નક્કી…અને હા અમે એવું વાડિયા બહુ ઝડપથી નિર્માણ કરીશું એ પણ નક્કી….
બદલાવ ઈચ્છતા યુવાન ભીખાભાઈ સાથે ફોટો લેવાનું મન તો મને અને મુંબઈથી આવેલા આદરણીય રશ્મીભાઈને થાય જ ફોટોમાં ભીખાભાઈ સાથે અને તેમણે કરેલો ભેંસોનો નાનકડો તબેલો..

Mittal Patel’s work and efforts for Changes in Vadia village – A report by GaonConnection

इस महिला ने गुजरात के सबसे बदनाम गांव की बदल दी तस्‍वीर

साल 2005 की बात है। एक कॉलेज में पढ़ने वाली लड़की एक अखबार की कतरन लेकर गुजरात के सबसे बदनाम गांव में पहुंच जाती है। यह गांव बनासकांठा जिले का वाडिया गांव है, जो कि देह व्‍यापार के लिए जाना जाता है। लड़की का मकसद साफ था कि उसे इस गांव की तस्‍वीर बदलनी है, यहां की पहचान बदलनी है। इस लड़की ने इस गांव की तस्‍वीर बदलने के लिए इतना काम किया कि आज देह व्‍यापार के चंगुल से वाडिया निकल रहा है और बदलाव की राह पर है। ”मित्‍तल पटेल के आने से गांव में बहुत बदलावा आया है। उन्‍होंने इस गांव की लड़कियों की शादी करानी शुरू की, जिससे वो देह व्‍यापार के धंधे से दूर रह सकें। यहां के बच्‍चों को पढ़ाई करा रही हैं, ताकि वो अच्‍छा पढ़कर अच्‍छा कुछ कर सकें। इतना ही नहीं पहले गांव में कोई सड़क नहीं थी। इसे समाज से बिल्‍कुल काट कर रखा गया था। अब गांव तक सड़क है और इसकी देह व्‍यापार से अलग एक तस्‍वीर बन रही है।” यह बात वाडिया गांव की रहने वाली महिला सूर्या बताती हैं। मित्‍तल पटेल (38 साल) गुजरात में ‘विचरता समुदाय समर्थन मंच’ नाम से एक एनजीओ चलाती हैं। यह एनजीओ घुमंतू जातियों और बंजारों की जिंदगी संवारने का काम कर रहा है। मित्‍तल बताती हैं, ”जब मैं वाडिया गांव जा रही थी तो लोगों ने मुझे बिन मांगी सलाह दी कि वहां न जाऊं, वहां के लोग बुरे हैं, मेरे साथ लूट हो सकती है, मेरा मर्डर हो सकता है और भी इस तरह की बातें बताई गई। कुछ लोगों ने यह भी कहा कि उन लोगों के लिए देह व्‍यापार आसानी से पैसे कमाने का एक जरिया है, ऐसे में वो लोग इसे छोड़ेंगे नहीं, मेरी बात कोई नहीं सुनेगा।”
”इन सब बातों को दरकिनार कर मैं वाडिया गांव गई थी। जब वहां पहुंची तो देखा वहां के लोग बहुत बुरे हाल में थे। किसी के शरीर पर ढंग के कपड़े नहीं थे। पक्‍के मकान तो किसी के नहीं थे। ऐसे में यह तो साफ हो गया कि पैसा कमाना इनके लिए आसान नहीं है। यह मजबूरी में ही इस काम से जुड़े हैं। लोगों से बात करने पर पता चला कि इन लोगों को समाज से काट कर रखा गया है। किसी के पास कोई सरकारी दस्‍तावेज नहीं था। रोजगार की कोई व्‍यवस्‍था नहीं थी। देह व्‍यापार के चलते गांव का नाम इतना खराब था कि अगर कोई बाजार में सामान लेने जाता तो वाडिया गांव के होने की वजह से उन्‍हें सामान देने से इनकार कर दिया जाता। एक तरह में इस गांव को पूरी तरह से समाज से काट कर रखा गया था।” मित्‍तल पटेल बताती हैं, ”समाज की सोच क्‍या है यह आप इसी से समझ सकते हैं कि जब मैंने गांव से बाहर की ओर जाने के लिए रोड की बात की तो लोगों ने कहा कि नहीं वहां रोड नहीं बननी चाहिए, नहीं तो वो लोग बाहर आ जाएंगे। मैनें सोचा क्‍या ये लोग समाज का हिस्‍सा नहीं हैं। कई लोगों ने तो यह भी सुझाव दिया कि इस गांव से लोगों को निकालकर हर गांव में एक परिवार बसा देना चाहिए, जिससे अगर किसी पुरुष की इच्‍छा होती है तो वो अपनी इच्‍छा की पूर्ति कर सके। इतनी घटिया सोच है समाज की।” मित्‍तल कहती हैं, ”फिर लगा कि उनकी भलाई के लिए काम करना चाहिए। क्‍योंकि 10-12 साल की बच्‍च‍ियां तक यह काम कर रही थीं। गांव के पुरुष की काम न करने की आदत भी एक वजह थी, जिसकी वजह से उन्‍हें ऐसा करना पड़ रहा था। हमने इनके राशन कार्ड बनवाए, ताकि इन्‍हें सुविधाएं मिल सकें। मैंने आज तक उनसे यह नहीं कहा कि आप गलत कर रहे हैं, क्‍यों‍कि मैं मानती हूं कि वो मेरा अधिकार ही नहीं है। मैं यह जरूर मानती हूं कि अगर लोगों को बेहतर सुविधाएं दी जाएं तो वो लोग खुद ब खुद बाहर आएंगे।” ”हमने वहां दो बोरवेल बनाए ताकि गांव की खेती अच्‍छे से हो सके। जब मैं पहली बार वाडिया गई थी तो वो पूरा गांव बंजर सा था, आज वहां एक भी खेत बाकी नहीं है, जहां पर लोग खेती नहीं कर रहे। इसके साथ हमने पशुपालन को जोड़ा, जिससे वो पशुओं का दूध बेचकर कमाई कर सकें। हमने बिना ब्‍याज के इन लोगों को लोन देना शुरू किया, जिससे कई लोग ने रिक्‍शा खरीद कर लाए हैं, कई लोग छोटी दुकान करके अपना काम कर रहे हैं। ऐसे इन लोगों के पास कमाई का जरिया बन सका।” ”इसके बाद जिस परिवार की हमने मदद की है और वो लोग बेहतर कमाई करने लगे हैं तो अब मैं उन लोगों के सामने यह शर्त रखने लगी हूं कि वो लोग अपनी किसी बेटी को देह व्‍यापार में नहीं डालेंगे। इसके साथ ही हमने बच्‍चों की पढ़ाई के ऊपर काम किया, क्‍योंकि बच्‍चे अगर पढ़ेंगे नहीं तो बाहर की दुनिया को जानेंगे नहीं, ऐसे में अपने गांव के हिसाब से ही बने रहेंगे। ऐसे में जब बच्‍चे बाहर निकले, बाहर के बारे में जान पाए तो घर पर कहने लगे कि यह सब गलत है।” 
मित्‍तल पटेल बताती हैं, ”इस गांव की एक प्रथा है कि अगर किसी बच्‍ची की सगाई हो जाए तो वो देह व्‍यापार के धंधे में नहीं जाएगी। इस लिए हम छोटी बच्‍चि‍यों की भी सगाई कराते हैं, ताकि वो इस धंधे में जाने से बच सकें। कई लोग कहते हैं कि यह गलत है, लेकिन अगर उनका जीवन बच रहा है तो यह सही भी है। हमने अबतक 35 बच्‍च‍ियों की शादी भी कराई है। जब मैं शुरू में गई थी तो सोचा था कि 50 साल में अगर 2 लड़कियों को इस धंधे से बाहर निकाल पाऊंगी तो मेरा जीवन सफल हो जाएगा, लेकिन मैं 10 साल में ही बहुत बड़ा बदलाव देख पा रही हूं।” ”जब मैंने सगाई और शादी करानी शुरू की तो मुझे धमकियां भी मिलने लगीं। गांव में आने पर देख लेने की धमकी, मार देने की धमकी और भी बहुत कुछ कहा गया। क्‍यों‍कि कुछ लोग थे जो नहीं चाहते थे कि यह बदलाव आए तो वो धमका कर डराना चाहते थे। इन सब वजहों से कई बार मेरे परिवार ने भी मुझे ऐसा करने से मना किया। वो लोग कहते थे कि अगर तुम्‍हारी इच्‍छा है उन लोगों के लिए कुछ करने की तो डोनेशन दे दो, तुम क्‍यों खुद जा रही हो। मैंने उन्‍हें समझाया और बाद में वो लोग समझ भी गए।” मित्‍तल पटेल कहती हैं ”पहले गांव में 150 परिवार थे जो देह व्‍यापार में संलिप्‍त थे। हमारे काम की वजह से इसमें से 90 परिवार बाहर आ गए हैं, बाकी के भी आ जाएंगे। हम लगातार यही प्रयास कर रहे हैं कि गांव से यह बुराई दूर हो जाए।” मित्‍तल पटेल के साथ आज 60 लोगों की टीम काम कर रही है। गुजरात के 17 जिलों में इनकी संस्‍था काम कर रही है। मित्‍तल को अपने काम के लिए कई अवॉर्ड मिले हैं, इनमें 2017 कर नारी शक्ति सम्मान भी शामिल है। फिलहाल मित्‍तल पटेल घुमंतू जातियों के जीवन में सुधार लाने के लिए लगातार काम कर रही हैं।

Mutual Trust keeps us rolling” – Bhamarji Gavariya’s story of life transformation…

Mittal Patel meets Champaben Gavariya
Ratila reminded me of Bhamraji and Champaben. Their small shop is just outside the village. It was 4 o’ clock  in the evening when the car we were travelling in arrived at their shop.
Seeing us alight from the vehicle,  Champaben came running towards us with great joy.
“Let’s go home. I will cook a quick meal for all of you!” insisted Champaben.

“Honestly, all of us were really hungry. The entire morning remained  busy with us  visiting  villages one after the other which had  left  us no time to have our meal. However, the scheduled meetings for the later part of the day did not leave any scope for us to enjoy the meal Champaben would have cooked for us with so much love.

“It is because of you that our shop is doing such good business. The son bought a four wheeler. While we both manage the shop,  the son takes the jeep to sell the products in other villages.” Champaben described.
“How is business?”
“We are able to pay the loan instalments regularly hence, we can say the business is doing good! The profit we earned helped us arrange a marriage of one of our sons. To tell you the truth, things are going well. We are happy.”
The Current living condition of Bhamraji Vansfoda
Bhamraji and other nomadic families living in Ratila will soon be able to live in decent houses of their own, thanks to the sheer hard work of VSSM’s Naran whose efforts have been instrumental in allotment of residential plots to these families.
“It is just because of the organisation that our work gets done otherwise, who listens to poor like us. You all have changed lives of so many, can’t thank you enough!!” Bhamraji spoke from his heart.
We pray for peace and happiness of Bhamraji, Champaben, their son Umaji and all whose lives VSSM has touched.
Umaji bought a four wheeler after taking an interest free loan from VSSM. The picture of Umaji with his vehicle remains to be shared. Nonetheless, Champaben in  her shop could be captured by us. They had taken a loan of Rs. 50,000 to start this shop. You can also see their residence in one of the images shared here.
People do question, “how do families living in such conditions manage to pay regular instalments?”
To which our reply is “they put faith in us and we completely trust  their integrity! It is this mutual respect and faith that keeps us rolling!”

રાંટિલા આવ્યું અને ભમરાજી અને ચંપાબહેન ગવારિયા યાદ આવ્યા. ગામના પાધરે તેમની દુકાન. અમે ચાર વાગે દુકાન સામે ગાડી ઊભી રાખી. 
અમને જોઈ દુકાનમાંથી ચંપાબહેન દોડીને બહાર આવ્યા,
એમણે ઉમળકાભેર આવકાર્યા અને કહ્યું,
‘હેડો ઘેર ખાવા રોધી નોખું’ 
સાચુ કહુ, ભુખ તો બહુ જ લાગી હતી. સતત એક ગામથી બીજે ને ત્યાંથી ત્રીજે ફરવામાં જમવાનો સમય ચુકાઈ ગયેલો. પણ આગળના પ્રવાસોના કારણે જમવા બેસાય એમ નહોતું.
ચંપાબહેન કહે, ‘તમાર પરતાપે દુકોન હારી હેડ. સોકરાએ ગાડી લીધી. મુ અન તમાર ભઈ દુકોન ઉપર બેહીએ અન ઊમો જીપમો કટલરીનો સોમોન લઈન ગોમે ગોમ ફર’
‘ધંધો કેવો થાય છે?’
‘તમાર હપ્તો બરોબર ભરાય સ એટલ ધંધો હારો હડ હ્ ઈમ કહી હકાય. ધંધામોં થેલા નફાથી એક સોકરાના લગનેય કીધા. જુઠુ નઈ કઉ પણ હવ બધી વાતનું હખ થઈ જ્યું’
રાંટિલામાં રહેતા ભમરાજી અને વિચરતી જાતિના અન્ય પરિવારોને રહેણાંક અર્થે પ્લોટ મળે એ માટે કાર્યકર નારણે ઘણી જેહમત ઊઠાવી. 
પ્લોટ મળી ગયા હવે ઘરેય થશે. 
પણ ભમરાજી કહે, ‘સંસ્થા હોય અન અમારુ બધુ કોમ પટે નકર અમાર ગરીબ ગરબોનું કુણ હોભળ. આ લોણે તો અમારા જેવા ઘૈઈકની જીંદગી બદલી નોસી. તમાર બધાનો ઓભાર મોનીયે એટલે ઓસો’
ભમરાજી તેમનો દીકરો ઊમાજી અને ચંપાબહેન સૌ સુખી થાય એવી ભાવના રાખીએ…
સંસ્થામાંથી લોન લઈને ઉમાજીએ ગાડી લીધી .જેનો ગાડી સાથેનો ફોટો બાકી રહ્યો. પણ ચંપાબહેનની દુકાન તો તમને ફોટોમાં ભળાશે. જે તેમણે 50,000ની લોન લઈને કરી છે. સાથે તેઓના રહેણાંકની સ્થિતિ પણ જોઈ શકાય છે. ઘણા કહે આવી હાલતમાં રહેનાર લોનના હપ્તા ભરે છે? અમે કહીએ છીએ.. અમારો એમના પર અને એમનો અમારા પર ભરોસો અકબંધ છે. બસ વિશ્વાસે ગાડુ ગબડે છે.
વિચરતી જાતિના આવા પરિવારોના જીવનમાં ઊજાસ પાથરવામાં નિમિત્ત બનાનાર સૌ પ્રિયજનોનો આભાર..
સાથે…સૌનું મંગલ કલ્યાણ થાવ એવી પ્રાર્થના…

Dharmabhai Desai has been assigned the responsibility of caring and nurturing these trees. VSSM and the village will share his remuneration expences.
“If we do not plant the trees now it will become difficult to survive on this planet. We want to turn our village green.
Dharmabhai loves tree and we are sure he will work hard to nurture and raise them.
The prepared pits were a little small, we have asked him to make them a little big.
The entire mission is now keenly awaiting the rains.
We are all praying for rains to arrive

ધરતીમાનો શણગાર વૃક્ષ.. વૃક્ષરૃપી શણગારથી આપણી પોષક ‘મા’ ને સજાવવાના સપના અમે સેવ્યા.
અત્યાર સુધી ‘મા’ને પુછ્યા વગર એની મંજુરી લીધા વગર બસ જોઈતું બધુ લીધા કર્યું. 
પણ પછી સમજાયું કે એનો શણગાર જ આપણને જીવાડે.
એટલે નક્કી કર્યું ઘરતીનો શણગાર એવી હરિયાળી વધુ સ્થાપીત કરવી
ગામોમાં જગ્યા વધુ મળે એટલે અમારો ઘરોબો જે ગામોમાં હતો, જ્યાંના લોકો અમારા કામની પદ્ધતિને સમજે તેવા વિસ્તારમાં પ્રથમ વૃક્ષારોપણું કામ આરંભવું.
બનાસકાંઠામાં 21 ગામો પસંદ કર્યા છે. જ્યાં ગામની ભાગીદારીથી વૃક્ષારોપણ કરીશું.
ગઈ ગાલે ગોલવી ગામમાં જવાનું થયું સરપંચ દશરથભાઈ દેસાઈ બહુ ઉત્સાહી. 
એમણે વૃક્ષારોપણ માટે જગ્યા પસંદ કરી અને અમારી શરત પ્રમાણે ઝાડની સુરક્ષા માટે ચારે બાજુ વાડની તૈયારી કરી દીધી.
વૃક્ષો માટે 1000 ખાડા કર્યા અને વૃક્ષોના જતન માટે ધર્માભાઈ દેસાઈએ સ્વેચ્છાએ જવાબદારી સ્વીકારી. ગામ અને VSSM બેય મળીને ધર્માભાઈને એમના કામનું મહેનતાણું ચુકવશે. 
દશરથભાઈએ કહ્યું, વૃક્ષો નહીં વાવીએ તો જીવવાનું અઘરુ થશે. અમારે અમારા ગામને હરિયાળુ કરવું છે. ધર્માભાઈ વૃક્ષપ્રેમી માણસ છે એ જતન કરશે.
ધર્માભાઈએ ખાડા નાના કર્યા છે અમે ખાડા મોટા કરવા કહ્યું. 
એક ઝાપટુ પડે પછી વૃક્ષો લાવવા છે. 
બસ મેઘરાજાની પધરામણીની રાહ છે..
મહેર કર કુદરત એવી પ્રાર્થના સાથે.. 
ગામે ગામ વન ઊભા થાય તેમ ઈચ્છીએ….

કોઇ વ્યક્તિને એવો અહેસાસ થાય કે, આ એક વિકટ સમસ્યા છે અને આગામી દિવસોમાં તે વિકરાળ સ્વરૂપ ધારણ કરશે તો શું કરવું જોઇએ તેનું ઉત્તમ ઉદાહરણ મિત્તલ પટેલે પુરુ પાડ્યું છે.

મિત્તલ પટેલનાં એક નિશ્ચયે બનાસકાંઠા જિલ્લાનાં 45 ગામોમાં 87 તળાવો ઊંડા કરી એ નવું અભિયાન ઉપાડ્યું અને હજ્જારો લોકો તેમા જોડાયાં. વાત પ્રેરક અને  રસપ્રદ છે.

મિત્તલબેન પટેલ 2006નાં વર્ષથી ગુજરાતમાં વિચરતા-વિમુક્ત સમુદાયો સાથે અને તેમનું જીવનધોરણ ઉંચુ આવે તે માટે કામ કરે છે. આ માટે તેમણે વિચરચા-વિમુક્ત સમુદાય સમર્થન મંચની સ્થાપના કરી છે

છેવાડાનાં વિચરતા-વિમુક્ત સમુદાયોને મતદારકાર્ડ મળે અને એ દ્વારા તેમને સરકારની અન્ય યોજનાઓનો લાભ મળે એ માટે તેમણે સમગ્ર દેશમાં દાખલારૂપ કામ કર્યું છે.

પણ મિત્તલબેનને પાણી બચાવવા અને બનાસકાંઠા જિલ્લાનાં ગામોમાં તળાવો ઊંડા કરવામાં કેમ રસ પડ્યો ? કહાની રસપ્રદ છે.
“વિચરતા-વિમુક્ત સમુદાયનાં લોકોને બનાસકાંઠા જિલ્લાનાં ગામોમાં મળવા જવાનું થાય ત્યારે એ ગામોમાં લોકોને પણ મળવાનું થતું. આ પ્રસંગે મેં પીવાનાં અને સિંચાઇનાં પાણીનાં સ્ત્રોતો વિશે પણ પુછ્યું. આ મુલાકાતોમાં મેં જાણ્યું કે, સિંચાઇની વ્યવસ્થા ન હોય તે વિસ્તારોમાં લોકો ભુગર્ભજળનો ઉપયોગ કરતા.

તળાવો મૃતપ્રાય પડ્યા હતા. દિવસે-દિવસે તળ ઊંડા ઉતરતા ગયા. મને આશ્ચર્ય લાગ્યું કે. લોકો તળાવો કેમ ગાળતા નથી. આ સવાલ જ્ઞાતિ-ધર્મથી પર સૌને સ્પર્શતો હતો અને મને લાગ્યું કે, આ કામ તાત્કાલિક કરવાની જરૂર છે અને એટલે 2015નાં વર્ષમાં આસોદર ગામથી આ કામ શરૂ કર્યું અને તેના પરિણામાં સારા મળ્યાં,” મિત્તલ પટેલે ન્યૂઝ18 ગુજરાતીને જણાવ્યું.

તેમણે કહ્યું કે, બનાસકાંઠા જિલ્લાએ છેલ્લા ચાર વર્ષમાં જળવાયુ પરિવર્તનથી કેવી વિપરીત અસરો થાય છે તેનો જાત અનુભવ કર્યો. કેમ કે, 2015માં બનાસકાંઠામાં પુર આવ્યું, 2016માં અછત આવી, ફરી 2017માં પુર આવ્યું અને 2018માં બનાસકાંઠામાં દુષ્કાળની સ્થિતિ આવી.

38-વર્ષનાં મિત્તલ પટેલે લોકોને જાગૃત કરવા માટે ગામે-ગામ લોકો સાથે ચર્ચાઓ કરી, મિટિંગો કરી. લોકોને સમજાવ્યા. જાગૃત કર્યા અને લોકભાગીદારી થકી એક નવા અભિયાનની શરૂઆત કરી.
2017 અને 2018માં એમ બે વર્ષમાં વિચરતા-વિમુક્ત સમુદાય સમર્થન મંચ અને લોકભાગીદારી થકી 45 ગામોમાં 87 તળાવો ઉંડા કર્યા અને જુના પરંપરાને જીવતી કરી.
તળાવો ઊંડા કરવાનાં અભિયાનમાં મિત્તલ બેન જેસીબી મસીન અને ડિઝલ આપે અને ગામ લોકો તેમના ખર્ચે તળાવમાંથી નીકળતી માટી ટ્રેક્ટરો દ્વારા ઉપાડી તળાવનાં કાંઠે નાંખે અથવા તેમના ખેતરમાં નાંખે. ગામ લોકોએ નિશ્ચિત ફાળો પણ આપ્યો.

“વિચરતા-વિમુક્ત સમુદાયનાં લોકોને બનાસકાંઠા જિલ્લાનાં ગામોમાં મળવા જવાનું થાય ત્યારે એ ગામોમાં લોકોને પણ મળવાનું થતું. આ પ્રસંગે મેં પીવાનાં અને સિંચાઇનાં પાણીનાં સ્ત્રોતો વિશે પણ પુછ્યું. આ મુલાકાતોમાં મેં જાણ્યું કે, સિંચાઇની વ્યવસ્થા ન હોય તે વિસ્તારોમાં લોકો ભુગર્ભજળનો ઉપયોગ કરતા.

તળાવો ઊંડા કરવાનાં અભિયાનમાં મિત્તલ બેન જેસીબી મસીન અને ડિઝલ આપે અને ગામ લોકો તેમના ખર્ચે તળાવમાંથી નીકળતી માટી ટ્રેક્ટરો દ્વારા ઉપાડી તળાવનાં કાંઠે નાંખે અથવા તેમના ખેતરમાં નાંખે. ગામ લોકોએ નિશ્ચિત ફાળો પણ આપ્યો.

તળાવ ઊંડા કરવાની સામાજીક ઉત્તરદાયિત્વની એક શરત રાખી
જે ગામોએ તળવા ઊંડા કરવા માટે મિત્તલબેનનો સહયોગ લેવો હોય તેમની સામે મિત્તલબેને એક શરત રાખી. આ શરત મુજબ, જે ગામો વિચરતા-વિમુક્ત સમુદાયનાં લોકોને ગામમાં વસાવવા માટે તૈયાર હોય, તેમને જાતિનાં પ્રમાણપત્રો, રાશનકાર્ડ, મતદાર ઓળખકાર્ડ, જમીનનાં પ્લોટો વગેરે સરકારી સરકારી સહાય અપવવામાં પહેલ કરે તેવા ગામોમાં કામ કરવું.
“લોકોએ અમારી આ શરત માની અને વર્ષોથી કચડાયેલા સમાજને મદદ કરી અને તેમને સહારો આપ્યો. આ આપણું સામાજીક ઉત્તરદાયિત્વ છે. લોકોએ તે નિભાવ્યું. મેં ગામોમાં કહ્યું કે, ગામમાં વિચરતી—િમુક્ત જાતિનાં લોકોનાં હોય તો તે ગામમાં રહેતા ગરીબો, દલિતોને પણ મદદ કરો અને લોકોએ કરી, મારા માટે તળાવો ઊંડા કરવાનું અભિયાન સમાજનાં કચડાયેલા વર્ગો પ્રત્યે પ્રસ્થાપિત સમાજ સંવેદનશીલ બને એનું માધ્યમ બન્યું,” મિત્તલ પટેલે પાણી બચાવ અભિયાનનું હાર્દ સમજાવતા કહ્યું.
મહત્વની વાત એ છે કે, જે ગામોમાં તળાવો ઊંડા કર્યા તે ગામોમાં હવે વૃક્ષારોપણ થાય અને ગુજરાત હરીયાળું બને તે માટે આ વર્ષે 25,000 વૃક્ષો વાવવાનું આયોજન કર્યું છે. પાણી બચાવવાનાં અભિયાનની સાથે-સાથે હરીયાળું ગુજરાત અભિયાન પણ જોડાયું.
“હું જે-જે ગામોમાં ગઇ ત્યાં વડીલોએ કહ્યું કે, તેઓ જ્યારે નાના હતા ત્યારે દર વર્ષે આખું એકઠું થતું અને તળાવ ગાળતું. કેમ કે, તળાવ પાણી માટે મહત્વનો સ્ત્રોત હતો. છેલ્લા ત્રણ દાયકામાં આ પરંપરા બંધ થઇ અને પાણીની તંગી શરૂ થઇ, તળ ઊંડા થયા. આ પરંપરા ફરી જીવતી કરીએ તો આપણે ઘણાં પ્રશ્નો હલ કરીશું,” મિત્તલ પટેલે ઉજ્જવળ ભવિષ્ય વિશે આશા વ્યક્ત કરતા કહ્યું.
આ વર્ષે વડાપ્રધાન નરેન્દ્ર મોદી સરકાર દ્વારા ડેવલપમેન્ટ ફોર વેલ્ફેર બોર્ડ ફોર ડી-નોટિફાઇડ, નોમેડિક એન્ડ સેમિ-નોમેડિક કોમ્યુનિટિઝની રચના કરવામાં આવી છે. આ બોર્ડનાં સભ્ય તરીકે મિત્તલ પટેલની નિમણુંક
કરાઇ છે.

“Ben, the officials are seated amidst us!! Looks like now our files will soon be cleared.” Sulemanbhai called up  from Amrapurpati  as the officials in Patan district had reached his settlement after District Collector Shri Anandbhai initiated efforts to address the current and pending issues of the nomadic and other destitute communities. The officials who never made an effort to step away from their chairs are now visiting settlements and preparing applications.
It is not just Sulemanbhai, but Ushaben Nat, Laxmanbhai Bajaniya and so many who were delighted at this turn of events.
The communities are overwhelmed, at last  their plight did get noticed. They were eager to honour the officer who was concerned for their well-being.
The nomadic communities reached Shri. Anandbhai’s office to thank him  for his concern and efforts. They expressed their gratitude in their own language, presented him flowers and a Murli too..
They also requested to be photographed with Shri. Anandbhai who delightfully obliged ( the nomads are photo fetish. Someday,  will share at length about this importance. For now District Collector Shri Anandbhai has acquired space in their photo albums, a space reserved only for their dear ones).

કાલીઘેલીભાષામાં આભાર માન્યો સાથેવાદીએ મોરલી તો અન્યોયેફુલોની ભેટ આપી.
વિચરતી જાતિના સૌએ તેમનીસાથે ફોટો પણ પડાવ્યા. અને આનંદભાઈએ એકદમ હરખાતાફોટો પડાવ્યા. (વિચરતી જાતિઓમાં આફોટોનું જબરૃ મહત્વ છેક્યારેક એનીયે વાત કરીશું. પણ હાલ પુરતુકહુ તો કલેક્ટર શ્રીએવિચરતી જાતિઓના આલબમમાં સ્થાનમેળવી લીધું જ્યાં પોતીકાનેજ સ્થાન હોયછે.)

Story of Transformation in the lives of Nomads…

The destitute families belonging to nomadic and de-notifiedcommunities aspire for a better life fo

themselves and there coming generations. The nomadic communities are entrepreneurs by nature, but given their socio-economic standing in the society it is hard for them to raise capital required to initiate their ventures.

The families began requesting financial assistance from VSSM. The prevalent circumstances and our vision to enable these communities lead a dignified life required us to provide  them interest free loans.

VSSM has provided a total of Rs. 2,97, 08, 111 as loan to 2442 families. This amount as revolving fund has increased to Rs. 7,23,37,843.

પોતાનો સ્વતંત્ર વ્યવસાય કરવાનીકુશળતા ઘણી છે. પણએ માટે જોઈએએવી મૂડી એમની પાસેક્યાં હતી. વળી મૂડીએમની રહેણાંકની હાલત જોઈને કોઈધીરેય નહીં.
અમારી પાસે આ પરિવારોએસ્વતંત્ર ધંધો કરવા માટેલોન માંગી ને અમેએમને વગર વ્યાજે લોનઆપી.
ફોટો અને વીડિયોમાં દેખાયએ રીતે અમણેપોતાની રીતે સ્વતંત્ર ધંધાશરૃ કર્યા અને આજેબે તેઓ બેપાંદડે થયા છે.
સંસ્થા દ્વારા કુલ 2,97,08,111 રૃપિયાલોન પેટે 2500 ઉપરાંત પરિવારોને આપવામાંઆવ્યા.

રૃા. 2,97,08,111 લોન પેટે આપેલા. આરકમ આજે રીવોલ્વીંગ નેચરમાં7,23,37,843 જેટલી થઈ છે.
સરનામાંવગરના આ માણસોનોવ્યવહાર બરાબર પાક્કો છે…

The founder and managing trustee of Vicharata Vimukta Samuday Samarthan Manch (VSSM), Patel is at present flooded with letters from various villages of Banaskantha district in North Gujarat to help them conserve water.

The 38-year-old has been instrumental in bringing changes in the lives of the deprived communities; it was due to her tireless advocacy of their rights since 2005 that they were recognised as Indian citizens and received access to various welfare schemes of the government.
The VSSM, which came into existence in 2006, has been a platform for the communities and organisations supporting them. Its mission is to give them social identity, citizen’s rights, education, health facilities and livelihood options.
Patel says that while visiting families in villages of Banaskantha district, a semi-arid area that borders Pakistan, she came face-to-face with the grim reality of depleting groundwater and disappearing lakes. She also observed people’s indifference towards water conservation.
However, in 2015, she decided that she had had enough. Since then, Patel has never looked back and her water conservation work has become a template for many villages in the region to emulate.
In the last two years, her organisation successfully deepened 87 village lakes in 45 villages of Banaskantha with people’s participation.
“Though I was working with the communities living in villages of Banaskantha, I could see how the region was neglecting itstraditional water conservation practices and how it was depleting the ground water table. In many villages, farmers deepened the borewell to 1,100 feet to fetch water. I then started meeting locals for water conservation. Initially, nobody was interested as they were still getting ground water but we continued our efforts to sensitise them and began our lake deepening work from Asodar village in Tharad taluka,” Patel told News18. In last four years, Banaskanatha district witnessed a severe climate change. According to the Gujarat State Disaster Management Authority (GSDMA) data, the area witnessed a drought in 2018 as it had received just 33.40 per cent rainfall as against its average annual rainfall. In 2017, Banaskantha received extremely heavy rainfall — 189.40 per cent — as against its average annual rainfall. Again, in 2016, Banaskantha received only 80.39 per cent average rainfall.
In 2015, Banaskantha had experienced heavy floods as it received 162.92 per cent rainfall as against its average annual rainfall.
“Farmers in most parts of Banaskantha district are dependent on rain and ground water. I told villagers how climate change would impact their lives in coming years and can’t be taken lightly. The same district faced extreme flood in 2015, scarcity in 2016, again floods in 2017 and drought in 2018. Villagers realised the severity of climate change and we began to deepen village lakes on a large scale. In the last two years, we deepened 87 lakes in 45 villages,” she said.
The 38-year-old also asked villagers to extend a helping hand to the nomadic and de-notified tribes in return for her help and they readily agreed.
“Nomadic and de-notified tribes face discrimination in most villages and due to lack of identity documents, they were unable to get benefit of government schemes. In villages where we deepened lakes, they helped communities in various ways and paved way for integration of these historically deprived communities with the mainstream,” she said. Her NGO provided earth-moving machine with fuel for water conservation and villagers had to bear other expenses such as taking away soil in their tractors.
“In most villages, people contributed financially so that we could further deepen their village lakes,” Patel said.
A resident of Adhgam village in Kankrej taluka of Banaskantha district, Valabhai, said: “After our lake was revived with the help of Patel, over 100 farmers get irrigation water from this lake and we can survive even rain deficiency. We could see the results of water conservation.”
Patel, meanwhile, says she revived the tradition for a better future. “When I started meeting elders in these villages, they told me that they would deepen lakes in their youth. It was a tradition but in the last three decades, it was stopped. They also told me that every villager was supposed to take part in lake deepening work as it was the only source of water for all. So, I just revived the tradition for collective better future,” she said.
The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi had in February this year set up Development and Welfare Board for Denotified, Nomadic and Semi-Nomadic Communities (DNCs). Patel has been appointed a member of this board.

The current living condition of nomads
It is more than a decade that I have been associated and working for the cause of  the extremely poor and marginalised communities. This requires me not just to be amidst these communities,  but also work with the government authorities and frequent visits to their offices . Trust me, the sites of government offices can be very depressing at times with dusty stacks of files  all around. The vision never fails to trigger a thought, what if all these files found solutions, what if the waiting applicants had their requests addressed??  What if the government decides to spring clean these endless stacks of  files just as we  clean our houses during Diwali?

Occasionally, we do come across an official who is determined to reduce the height of these long accumulated  stacks. But, these are very rare occurrences. Shir Anandbhai stands out  even amongst these rare government officers. After personally visiting the nomadic settlements he instructed his team to become  proactive and find solutions to the long pending issues of the nomadic families of Patan.  Of course,  it will not always be the case wherein the local bureaucracy  shares the same passion and vision as the district collector. Hence, few issues were followed up and few remained. VSSM’s Mohanbhai felt that this should be brought to the notice of the Collector. Once again the team was instructed to resolve all the pending  issues.

On 1st  July, Shri Anandbhai called a meeting of the heads of all concerned department handling the pending matters of the nomadic communities.  And what he spoke at the meeting portrayed his deep understanding and sensitivity towards the poor, “It is ok if you want to inquire the villagers about these communities. You can always listen to what they have to say,  but do not rely on it. When it comes to relying you rely on what the nomadic communities say!!”  How true.
The officials who could not make it to the meeting of 1st July were called for a meeting today on 3rd July. Since yesterday the entire team of government officials is visiting the settlements of Dafer, Vadee, Vansfoda, Bajaniya and other communities.
Since very long we had been following up the application for aid towards sanitation blocks in  Jesda, yesterday the local office also issued the cheque towards that.
As I have always opined, the Collector is the king of the district. He can do wonders for his janta if he has the will. Hence, it is desired that he is concerned about the wellness of his subjects. And this concern was very evident from Shri. Anandbhai conduct.
The purpose behind sharing this here is that undying  hope that other officials might draw inspiration from such proactive bureaucrats.
There are very few officers for whom we hold respect, for you Anandbhai we have special respect and honour. We salute your sentiments towards the marginalised. We will always remain grateful  to you.

એક સંવેદનશીલ અધિકારી ઈચ્છે તો શું કરી શકે એનું પ્રમાણ કલેક્ટર પાટણ તરીકે કામ કરતા શ્રી આનંદ પટેલમાં જોયું.
વર્ષોથી તકવંચિતો વચ્ચે કામ કરુ છું.. અને તેમના પ્રશ્ને વારંવાર કચેરીઓમાં જવાનું પણ થાય.
કચેરીમાં લેખીતમાં કરેલી અરજીઓની ફાઈલોના ઢગલા જોઈને હંમેશાં થતું કોઈ વ્યક્તિ આ ફાઈલો ક્લીયર કરવાનો સંકલ્પ ના કરી શકે?
દિવાળીમાં ઘરની સફાઈ થાય એમ કચેરીમાં પડેલી ફાઈલોની હકારાત્મક ભાવ સાથે સફાઈ ના થઈ શકે?
ખેર ક્યારેક કોઈક અધિકારી એવા જડી જાય જે આ દિશામાં કામ કરવાનું કરે. પણ એમાં સાતત્ય જળવાવાના પ્રશ્નો તો રહે જ.
પણ આ બધામાં કલેક્ટર પાટણ આનંદભાઈ બહુ નોખા જણાયા. વિચરતી જાતિઓની સ્થિતિ સમજવા એમની વસાહતમાં ગયા અને તમામ અધિકારીઓને આ સમુદાયના પ્રશ્નો ઉકેલવા સૂચના આપી.
પણ કલેક્ટર શ્રીની જેમ ભાવના રાખીને કામ કરવાવાળા બધા નહીં એટલે થોડું કામ થયું થોડું રહ્યું.
આ સંદર્ભે અમારા કાર્યકર મોહનભાઈએ ફરી કલેક્ટર શ્રીનું ધ્યાન દોર્યું ને એમણે જાણે સંકલ્પ કર્યો હોય તેેમ તમામ પ્રશ્નોનો નિવેડો લાવવાનું નક્કી કર્યું.
તા.1 જુલાઈ 2019ના વિચરતી જાતિના પ્રશ્નો જે વિભાગને અડે એ તમામ વિભાગ સાથે તેમણે બેઠક કરી. આ બેઠકમાં સૌથી અગત્યની જે વાત કરી તેના પરથી તેમની સંવેદનાનું પ્રમાણ મળે..
તેમણે કહ્યું, ‘ગામને આ સમુદાયની વિગતો પુછવી હોય તો પુછજો પણ એમના પર આધાર ના રાખતા. આધાર વિચરતી જાતિનો જ લેજો.’
આનંદભાઈ તમે બરાબર વિચરતી જાતિને સમજ્યા. 
જે અધિકારી 1 જુલાઈની બેઠકમાં હાજર રહી શક્યા નહીં તેમની સાથે આજે બેઠક કરી..
ગઈ કાલથી તંત્રની આખી ટીમ ડફેર, વાદી, વાંસફોડા, બજાણિયા વગેરે સમુદાયોની વસાહતમાં ફરી રહી છે.
અરે જેસડામાં તો શૌચાલય માટેની સહાય માટે કેટલા વખતથી લખતા હતા તે ગઈ કાલે શૌચાલય માટેના ચેક સ્થાનિક કચેરીએ આપી દીધા.
આ બધુ કોઈ પ્રેરણા લઈ શકે એ માટે લખુ છું. કલેક્ટર જિલ્લાના રાજા.. એ પ્રજાની ચિંતા કરે એ ઈચ્છનીય.. અને એ દિશામાં કલેક્ટર શ્રી પાટણ છે.. એમની આ ભાવનાને સલામ..
બહુ ઓછા અધિકારી છે જેમના માટે વિશેષ માન છે. આપ પ્રત્યે વિશેષ માન અને આદર બેય. વિચરતી જાતિઓ સદાય આપની ઋણી રહેશે…
