The Lost World
The Nomads have been an intrinsic part of our social, cultural and economic canvas. They featured in the stories told by our grandma, in our fables and folk tales and in our literature. During the bygone days of thriving rural economies, these communities had a significant role to play in the society. Each of the nomadic community had a reason to exist in our lives. They were our entertainers, traders, goods and service providers and much more. The lives of the settled rural communities and these ever-traveling nomadic communities were so intertwined that it was hard to imagine otherwise.
Re-learning the traditional art and crafts
The emergence of a modern and industrialized society has rendered the traditional occupations of the NT-DNTs either reeling under tremendous threat for survival or almost obsolete. Under such circumstances earning decent income for these communities has become a major challenge. There is an immense need to create alternate prospects of employment or to enhance the existing skills the communities possess so as to make them more contemporary in nature.
