Mittal Patel meets Hakimbha Dafer

Some connections are arranged by God. 

My relations with Hakimbha who stays with his family In the village of Bhadwana in Surendranagar District are similar.

They are called “Dafers”. Their reputation is not good. In 2005 when I used to search for this community, I was warned not to go amongst them.  However this “Dafer” community has given me lots of love.

Hakimbha calls me up at least 3 times a week. He has been doing this for the last 17 years.  Our conversation normally goes like this :

Benba when will our work get done?

Wait for some more time. All good will happen

 But now even hands and legs have stopped working

 True Bha. it is in my destiny to do your work. I am working on it. We have already got the plots           allotted. Very soon the houses will also be built.

 Please take care of us. We have no one except you.

 I am there, do not worry Bha. 

This talk between us has been going on since long time.. Often the police department also comes into play. If police come to inquire then they would request me to see that police do not harm them.

Sometimes they are asked whether they still do the stealing and theft. They would reply that ” We do not indulge in such things. We are answerable to Benba. We will not do anything that will hurt Benba”

The families of “Dafer” community now have confidence that I am with them. & therefore they have started to   invite others in marriage functions and even during deaths. Earlier they used to avoid getting together. Our relationship is very pious. They would not lie in my presence. They would also do what I tell them to do.

They got plots in Bhadvana. To construct the house, the government will give Rs 1.20 lakhs. However, that is not enough to construct the house. They have no resources to help themselves. With authority they would tell me to help in the construction of homes. They would also say that build proper houses. People should not laugh seeing them. They say this with full ownership.

They love me like their daughter. All ladies of the community bless me. Whenever I sit with Hakimba, he would say many times that ” Allah rasool will do good to you.”

Relations like this are defined by nature. In the eyes of society this community is very dangerous. But they bestow lots of love on me. Ummarbhai, Hamirbhai, Allahrakha are like my own. When I meet them I feel that I am the richest person on this planet.

કેટલાક સંબંધો ઈશ્વરીય..

સુરેન્દ્રનગરના ભડવાણામાં રહેતા હકીમભા અને એમના પરિવાર સાથે પણ એવો જ સંબંધ. 

ડફેરનો ઈતિહાસ કાંઈ ઉજળો નહીં. 2005માં જ્યારે આ સમુદાયને શોધતી ત્યારે લોકો એમની વચ્ચે ન જવાયની વાતો કરતા. 

પણ મને આ સમુદાયે ખુબ પ્રેમ આપ્યો..

હકીમભાનો અઠવાડિયામાં ત્રણેક વખત ફોન આવે. એ પણ આજ કાલથી નહીં 17 વર્ષથી. એમની અને મારી વચ્ચે એક જ પ્રકારનો ડાયલોગ થાય…

બેનબા અમારુ બધુ કે’દી થાસે?

થોડી વાટ જુઓ.. બધુ સારુ થશે.

પણ હવે તો હાથ પગેય કામ કરતા બંધ થાસે.

સાચુ ભા,પણ મારા ભાગમાં તમારા માટે પ્રયત્ન કરવાનું.. ને એ પ્રયત્નો હું કરુ..પ્લોટ એ પ્રયત્નોથી મળ્યા. તે હવે ઘરેય થશે..

એ તમે ધ્યાન દેજો.. તમારા સિવાય અમારુ કોઈ નથી.

હું છું…

અમારી વચ્ચે આ વાતો વર્ષોથી થાય. આમાં ક્યાંક પોલીસની માથાકૂટ આવે તો.

પોલીસ હમણાં પુછવા આવી તી બેન બા.. તે તમે ધ્યાન દેજો.. આવી એક લીટીનો ઉમેરો થાય..

મારી સાથે આવનાર પુછે કે હવે લૂંટ કે ચોરી એવું કાંઈ કરો..

તો કહે, એવું બધુ કાંઈ નો કરીએ.. કરીએ તો બેનબાને જવાબ હું દઈએ… એમને નીચાજોણું થાય એવું અમે કાંઈ નો કરીએ..

પણ આ બધા પરિવારોને અમે એમની સાથે છીએ નો ભરોષો એટલે હવે લગ્નોમાં મહેમાનો બોલાવતા થયા. મરણમાં પણ સગા વહાલને બોલાવે.. એક સમય હતો કે લગ્ન કે મરણ જેવા પ્રસંગે ભેગા થવાનું એ ટાળતા. પણ હવે એ નિર્ભય થયા..

અમારી વચ્ચેનો સંબંધ પવિત્ર. મારી સામે એ ખોટુ ન બોલે.. ને કહુ એ વાત માને પણ ખરા..

ભડવાણામાં એમને પ્લોટ મળ્યા. ઘર બાંધવા સરકાર 1.20 લાખની મદદ કરશે પણ આમાં ઘર ન થાય. એમની સ્થિતિ તો એક સાંધો ત્યાં તેર તુટે એવી.  એટલે હકથી બેન બા ઘર તમારે કરવાના થાશે.. એવું એમને મળુ એટલે એ કહે..

હું હા પાડુ એટલે કે, હરખા કરજો હો.. લોકો દાંત કાઢે એવા નો થાય એ જોજો…

આવું કહે ત્યારે થાય કેવો અધિકાર ભાવ છે… આ બધાને…

એમની દીકરી હોવું એવું હેત વર્ષાવે. મળુ ત્યારે એમના ઘરના ને વસાહતા અન્ય બહેનો દુઃખણા લે.. હકીમભા પાસે જેટલી વાર બેઠી હોવું એટલી વારમાં કોણ જાણે કેટલી વાર અલ્લા રસુલ તમારુ ભલુ કરે એવું બોલે…

કેટલાક સંબંધ કુદરત નક્કી કરે.. અમારો સંબંધ પણ એવો જ… બાકી સમાજની નજરે આ બધા બહુ માથાભારે ગણાય. પણ મારા માટે તો આ બધા લખલૂટ પ્રેમ વર્ષાવે.. અમારા ઉમરભાઈ, હમીરભા, અલ્લારખા કેટલાય છે જે પોતિકા છે… 

આ બધાને મળુ ત્યારે થાય મારુ બેંક બેલેન્સ બહુ મોટુ છે…

“20 Students who studied under the trees planted by you have got government jobs’ ‘.

I was pleasantly shocked to hear this from Shri Prahaladbhai in Juna Deesa in Banaskantha District.. Never realised that there would be such an unintentional benefit of planting the trees. The trees were planted primarily for  greenery & birds/animals.

It reminded me of  Rabindranath Tagore’s Shantiniketan. Today we complain about inadequate facilities in the classroom. In the days gone by there was no classroom and students used to study under the trees and shine in their careers. Many such students grew to occupy some of the most important positions in the country. The trees in Ramdevpirji Temple in Juna Deesa reminded me of this.  We plant trees in large numbers and  call them “Gramvan” ( Village Forest) . Now we can change the name & call them ” Natura’s library”

The students studying under the trees would also take care of  the trees. We need to have such nature’s library in every village so that every student can study peacefully underneath a tree.

We have created 166 forests.  In the Juna Deesa , Rosy Blue India Pvt  Ltd helped us in creating one. The villagers of Juna Deesa and devotees of Ramdevpirji helped us in this. The local government gave us water facility.  Our caretaker Shri Rameshbhai Nat takes care of the trees like a mother. Thus with the support of various people , the trees are  growing well. 

Till now we have planted 8.50 lakhs trees, This year our target is 10 lakh trees which we will definitely achieve.

We are thankful to all our well-wishers who helped us in this mission.

 ’20 વિદ્યાર્થીઓ તમે ઉછેરેલા આ ઝાડ નીચે ભણીને સરકારી નોકરીએ લાગ્યા.’

બનાસકાંઠાના જુના ડીસાના પ્રહલાદભાઈની આ વાત સાંભળી હું અવાક થઈ ગઈ. અમે વૃક્ષો પશુ પક્ષીઓને આશરો મળે ને પ્રકૃતિ રાજી થાય તે માટે વાવી ઉછેરેલા પણ એનો આવો સરસ ઉપયોગ થશે એવી આશા નહોતી. 

રવીન્દ્રનાથ ટાગોરનું શાંતિનિકેતન યાદ આવ્યું. આજે નિશાળમાં ઓરડો નથી એ વાતે કાગારોળ થાય પણ એક સમયે અભાવમાં વિદ્યાર્થીઓ ભણતા ને પોતાની પ્રતિભા ઝળકાવતા. લીમડા નીચે ભણીને કેટલાય વિદ્યાર્થીઓ દેશના સર્વોચ્ચ ગણાય તેવા ક્ષેત્રોમાં ઉચ્ચ હોદ્દા પર કામ કરી રહ્યા છે. જૂના ડીસાના રામદેવપીરજીના મંદિરમાં ઉછેરી રહેલા 2500 વૃક્ષો જોઈને આ બધી વાતો યાદ આવી.

આમ તો અમે જથ્થામાં વૃક્ષો વાવી ઉછેરીયે એને ગ્રામવન કહીએ પણ હવે નામમાં જરા ફેરફાર કરી પ્રાકૃત લાયબ્રેરી પણ કહી શકાય. 

વિદ્યાર્થીઓ ભણતા ભણતા વૃક્ષોને પણ સાચવે. ગામે ગામ આ પ્રકારે વિદ્યાર્થીઓ નિરાંતે વાંચી શકે તે માટે પ્રાકૃત લાયબ્રેરીનો વિચાર અમલમાં મુકવા જેવો ખરો.

અમે 166 ગ્રામવન કર્યા. જૂના ડીસાનું આ ગ્રામવન કરવા રોઝી બ્લુ ઈન્ડીયા પ્રા.લી. કંપનીએ મદદ કરી. જુનાડીસાના ગ્રામજનો અને ભગવાન રામદેવપીરના ભક્તો પણ આમાં મદદરૃપ થાય. પંચાયત પાણીની સુવિધા આપે. અમારા વૃક્ષમિત્ર રમેશભાઈ નટ આ વૃક્ષોની માની જેમ કાળજી કરે. આમ સૌના સહિયારા પ્રયાસથી વૃક્ષો સરસ ઉછરી રહ્યા છે. 

હાલ અમે 8.50 લાખથી વધારે વૃક્ષો ઉછરી રહ્યા છીએ. આ વર્ષે 1 મીલીયન વૃક્ષો વાવી ઉછેરવાનો અમારો લક્ષાંક પૂર્ણ કરીશું… 

આ કાર્યમાં મદદરૃપ થતા સૌ સ્વજનોના અમે આભારી છીએ…

Amidst all concrete houses was this house made with wet mud. It had no electricity connection. Kerosene lamps seen in the old days were still used. As soon as one enters this house one could find such kerosene lamps. Now that kerosene is not available then how do these lamps light ?

Babuma who stays alone in this house replied that she lights the lamp with diesel. I heard for the first time that one could light a lamp with diesel. One could see many vessels arranged in the house. At one time many guests used to come to this house.  In fact there were many members of the family and the house was always abuzz with activity. 

With two Sons and a husband the life was going on without much problem. But unfortunately both the sons expired because of local infectious disease and soon the husband expired too..Other relations had no time for Babuma. Babuma was now alone. She did some labour jobs and earned money which took care of her needs. But now with age she was getting tired. She could not get work either. She was dependent on the she got on the ration card.However that was not enough. It was not in her nature to ask for favours.. 

Our associate Shri Rajnibhai came to know about Babuma staying in Pingjal village of Kheda district.He met Babuma and Babuma requested that if she could get a month’s ration that would be enough and she would not have to depend on others. We at VSSM started giving ration to her every month. Babuma is now much more comfortable.

We take care of 600 such old parents who do not have anyone to take care of them. You can be a guardian to them . Many write to us about such old people in various villages. However it is not always possible for us to reach them. However if society helps we can help even a thousand such dependent old parents.

 બહુ બધા પાક્કા મકાનોની વચ્ચે એક ગાર માટીમાંથી બનાવેલું નાનકડુ મકાન ઊભેલું. ઘરમાં વીજળીની સુવિધા નહીં.  નાનપણમાં જોયેલો ઘાસતેલનો દિવો આ ઘરમાં પ્રવેશીયે કે નાનકડી છાજલીમાં મુકેલો ભળાય. હવે કેરોસીન તો મળતું નથી તો આ દિવો પ્રગટે શેનાથી?

જવાબમાં આ ઘરમાં રહેતા એકલા અટુલા બબુમાએ કહ્યું ડીઝલથી. ડીઝલથી દિવો બળે એ પહેલીવાર સાંભળ્યું. નાનકડુ ઘર એમાં અભરાઈ પર ઘણી થાળી વાટકીઓ ગોઠવેલી. એક વખતે આ ઘરમાં ઘણા મહેમાનો આવતા. અલબત ઘરમાં વસ્તાર પણ હતો એટલે ઘર ધમધમતુ હતું. મજૂરી કરીને પેટિયું રળતા બબુમાનો સંસાર ભર્યોભાદર્યો હતો. 

બે દિકરા ને પતિ સાથે જીંદગી ઠીકઠાક જઈ રહી ત્યાં દિકરાને બળિયાબાપજી નીકળ્યા ને એ દુનિયા છોડી ગયો. બીજો પણ એજ રીતે બિમારીમાં ગયો. પછી તો કાકા પણ ગયા ને બબુમા એકલા રહી ગયા. 

કુટુંબના બધા ખરા એ થોડું ધ્યાન આપે. પણ બબુમા એકલા થઈ ગયા. મજૂરી મળે એ કરે ને જીવન પસાર થાય. પણ હવે હાથપગ થાક્યા. કામ પણ ન મળે. રેશનકાર્ડ પર મળતા અનાજ પર નભે.. પણ પુરુ ન થાય. વળી બબુમાને કોઈ પાસે માંગવું ન ગમે.

આવા ખેડાના પીંગળજમાં રહેતા બબુમા વિષે અમારા કાર્યકર રજનીભાઈને ખ્યાલ આવ્યો. એ એમને મળ્યા ને બાએ કહ્યું મહિનાનું રાશન મળી જાય તો મને ઠીક કરે કોઈની ઓશળિયા વેઠવાની ન થાય.

અમે દર મહિને રાશન પહોંચાડવાનું શરૃ કર્યું. હવે બબુમાના જીવને નિરાંત છે..

ચાકરી કરનાર કોઈ ન હોય તેવા 600 નિરાધાર બા દાદાઓને અમે દર મહિને રાશન આપીયે તમે પણ એમના પાલક બની શકો. 

ઘણા સ્વજનો અમને ફલાણા ગામમાં આવા જ એક બા છે કે દાદા છે તમે મદદ કરોનું લખી મોકલે પણ અમે બધે પહોંચી ન વળીએ. પણ હા સમાજ સહયોગ કરે અને આવા બા દાદાઓના એ એક એક કરીને પાલક બને તો છસો શું હજાર માવતરોને મદદ કરી શકાય.

પાલક બનવા 90999-36013 પર 10 થી 6માં સંપર્ક કરી શકાય. કોઈ કારણસર ફોન ન ઉપડે તો વોટસઅપમાં મેસેજ કરી શકાય..

નિરાધાર ઘણા છે જેમને ઘડપણમાં લાઠીની જરૃર છે. આ અભીયાનમાં જોડાઈ એમની ઘડપણની લાઠી બનવા આપ સૌને વિનંતી.

Bharatbhai Patel stays in England. In 2014 he sent us an email enquiring about photographing the nomadic tribes. After that we talked over the phone and he flew down to India for photography. This trend continued for many years. In every winter Bharatbhai would fly down and move around the settlements of nomads.

He got so much interested in nomadic tribes that he went to settlements in Punjab, Haryana & Uttar Pradesh. As such he travels world over to take pictures of the locals. He mixes with them and takes their pictures. The pictures are candid and show the natural expressions of the people.

He has captured in his camera the day to day life of nomadic tribes in a touching way. He published a book of  the photographs that he has taken. He named it “Nomadic Odyssey”.

We can get to see lovely pictures of nomadic tribes of Gujarat in this book.

In years to come, the life of this nomadic tribe  would be far different from what it is now. In changing times even they are giving up old customs and adapting new ways to live life.  The pictures taken by Bharatbhai will stand as remembrance and give us the glimpse of the life they lived in the past.

Bharatbhai has become like a family. Whenever he is in Gujarat we get an opportunity to meet. I have used his pictures in my book and on the VSSM web-site.  We are thankful to Bharatbhai for his sentiments. We hope many more people get a chance to see this book and buy the book.

ભરતભાઈ પટેલ ઈગ્લેન્ડમાં રહે. વર્ષ 2014માં એમનો ઈમેલ વિચરતી જાતિઓની ફોટોગ્રાફી કરવા બાબતે આવ્યો. એ પછી તો ફોન પર વાત થઈ અને એ આવ્યા ફોટોગ્રાફી માટે.. પછી તો આ ક્રમ વર્ષો વરસનો બન્યો. દર વર્ષે શિયાળામાં એ આવા ને વિચરતી જાતિઓની વસાહતોમાં ભ્રમણ કરે.

” We visited the office many times for our Ration Card but were not successful in getting it”

The villagers of Bidaj in Kheda District said this. The administration of Kheda helped them a lot and we also got involved with them. Finally more than 35 families got the ration cards.

The Deputy Collector came to the settlement of nomads and handed over the ration card with his own hands to the families. He also said that those families that have not yet got the ration card or who need their ration cards to be split because the family member has separated should come to him and the administration would help them. It is a nice feeling when an officer is proactive. We are thankful to the collector Shri Bayani . It was because of him that this became possible,

One 70 year old lady from Vanzara community said that she is seeing the ration card for the first time in her life.

The utility of ration cards is multiple. Not only for getting the ration, it is also helpful in availing the various benefits of the government. VSSM continuously strives to help these people get the ration cards. 

Our associate from Kheda District Shri Rajnibhai works hard on this front. We got the support of a leader Shri Mukeshbhai in Bidaj which helped to get the work done faster.

‘રેશનકાર્ડ માટે કચેરીના ઘણા ધક્કા ખાધા પણ મેળ પડતો નહોતો.’

ખેડાના બીડજમાં વર્ષોથી રહેતા પરિવારોએ આ કહ્યું. ખેડાનું તંત્ર અમને ઘણી મદદ કરે એટલે અમે આમાં મથવાનું નક્કી કર્યું ને એક સાથે 35 થી વધારે પરિવારોના રેશનકાર્ડ બન્યા. 

નાયબ મામલતદાર વસાહતમાં આવ્યા ને સૌ પરિવારોને પોતાના હસ્તે રેશનકાર્ડ આપ્યા. એમણે કહ્યું, હજુ જે પરિવારોના કાર્ડ બાકી હોય, જેમના કાર્ડનું વિભાજન થતું ન હોય તેવા પરિવારો પણ અમારી પાસે આવજો અમે એમાં મદદ કરીશું.

અધિકારી આવી પહેલ સામેથી કરે એનાથી રાજી જ થવાય. કલેક્ટર શ્રી બાચાણી સાહેબનો ઘણો આભાર એમના કારણે આ શક્ય બન્યું. 

વણઝારા સમુદાયના પરિવારોમાંથી એક માડીએ તો કહ્યું, કે મારી ઉંમર સીત્તેરની થઈ. રેશનકાર્ડ બાપગોતરમાં ભાળ્યું નહોતું આજે પહેલીવાર મળ્યું. 

રેશનકાર્ડનો ઉપયોગ માત્ર રાશન માટે હોય એ ખરુ પણ સરાકરની વિવિધ યોજનાઓની મદદ માટે પણ રેશનકાર્ડ અગત્યનું VSSM આવા વંચિત પરિવારોને સરકારની મદદ મળે તે માટે સતત પ્રયત્ન કરે. 

અમારા ખેડાના કાર્યકર રજનીભાઈ આ બધા માટે ખુબ મથે.. આગેવાન મુકેશનભાઈનો બીડજમાં સાથ મળ્યો એટલે કામ ઝડપથી થયું..

અધિકારગણનો ઘણો ઘણો આભાર… ને આ કાર્ય માટે મદદ કરનાર અમારા સ્વજનોનો પણ આભાર…

There is a person or a family in deep trouble. We see that person or the family everyday. If  it does not cause any anguish or pain in us , we need to check whether we are really alive or not. True, we cannot resolve all the troubles of everyone in this world. True that it is not always possible to always help monetarily but with our sense of better knowledge than that of a person in trouble, we can always be a moral support & a guide.

In Bhiloda village of Sabarkantha District there lives about 15 families in Bharathari settlement. They have infinite problems. They suffer from vices addiction. The settlement is unhygienic and dirty. Children do not regularly go to school. 

I met them all for the first time. They are staying on Government land. They do not  have their own land. They requested help to get plots in their name & then have houses constructed on it. We helped them get BPL Ration Card & Caste certificate. We applied to the collector for alloting the plot to them. However a very pertinent question we asked them as to why they are not doing anything to uplift themselves.

Cleanliness is one aspect that we need to follow. We may not get water everyday to bathe but we can always keep our surroundings clean. Why is it important to abstain from vices? We spoke a bit tough with them and also with love.  When I was leaving after talking to them , they said that “till date no one has spoken to them about cleanliness and vices. If someone explains the benefits like you did, we would understand. We want to improve ourselves” I do not like the word “improve” but somehow what I felt was that they were right. 

One may feel that what is the need to explain such basic things. One must know it themselves. But frankly , I feel that if talked to it would make a difference.

Whenever you see such a settlement in your neighbourhood, go to them. Talk about the good & bad things happening in society.  Sometimes you may feel that they are resisting change. But one must have patience. If you persist they will accept the change. I have seen that happen.

Bharthari community having got BPL Ration card, they are relieved. We will also see that allotment of plots is expedited and houses also constructed on it. 

Respected Shri Pratulbhai Shroff of Dr K R Shroff Foundation came personally to meet the families. We get a lot of help from him. Nature gives enough money to many. But to some who are willing to spend on others, nature gives in bountiful. That is for sure.  Pratulbhai we are happy that you are with us.

કોઈ વ્યક્તિ કે પરિવાર પારાવાર તકલીફમાં છે. આપણે રોજ એમને જોઈએ પણ એમની તકલીફ જોઈને આપણને પીડા ન થાય તો આપણે ખરેખર જીવતા છીએ કે કેમ એ તપાસવું રહ્યું… હા આખી દુનિયાના કલ્યાણમાં નિમિત્ત બનવાનું આપણાથી શક્ય નથી. પૈસાથી પણ મદદ કરવી કદાચ શક્ય નથી. પણ આપણને મળેલી સમજણ તો અન્યો સાથે ચોક્કસ વહેંચી જ શકાય..

સાબરકાંઠાના ભીલોડાની ભરથરી વસાહતમાં પંદર પરિવારો રહે. ગણ્યા ગણાય નહીં એટલા દુઃખો. પણ પરિવારમાં વ્યસનની પણ તકલીફ. ગંદકી પણ વસાહતમાં ઘણી. કેટલાક બાળકો નિશાળમાં નિયમીત જાય ને કેટલાક નહીં..

આ બધાને પહેલીવાર મળી.. સૌએ સરકારી જમીનમાં રહીએ છીએ. પોતાની જમીન નથી તમે મદદ કરો તો અમને પ્લોટ મળે ને અમે ઘરવાળા થઈએ એની વાત કરી. અમે બીપીએલ  રાશનકાર્ડ કરવામાં, જાતિ પ્રમાણપત્ર કઢાવવામાં મદદ કરી. પ્લોટ મળે તે માટે પણ કલેક્ટર શ્રીને રજૂઆત કરી દીધી છે. પણ આ બધાની વચમાં તમે પોતે તમારા ભલા માટે કેમ કશું કરતા નથી એ પ્રશ્ન એમને પુછ્યો…

ચોખ્ખાઈ કોઈ થોડું શીખવે આપણે જાતે રહેવાનું છે. રોજ નાહવા પાણી ન મળે સમજી શકાય પણ ઘર આગળ કચરો કેવી રીતે સાંખી લેવાય, વ્યસનને શું કામ આમંત્રીત કરવું વગેરે જેવી ઘણી વાતો કરી. થોડો ગુસ્સો ને થોડું વહાલ પણ કર્યું. 

બેઠક પતાવીને નીકળી રહી હતી ત્યારે એમણે કહ્યું, તમે જે કહ્યું એવી વાતો અમારી પાસે આવીને કોઈ કરતું જ નથી. આવું થોડું શીખવે તો મગજમાં બેસી જાય.  અમે પણ સુધરવા માંગીયે છીએ…

સુધરવા શબ્દ મને બહુ ગમતો નથી.. પણ એમની વાત સાચી લાગે.

જો કે આ વાંચીને કેટલાકને એમ પણ થાય કે એમાં શીખવવાનું શું? જાતે સમજી શકાય. 

પણ અનુભવે કહુ તો જાતે બધુ નથી સમજાતુ કોઈ કહે તો ફરક પડે.

તમે આવી વસતિને તમારી આસપાસમાં જુઓ તો સતત એમની પાસે જાવ, સારા નરસાની વાતો કરો, કેટલુંક શીખવો.

ઘણી વખત એમ થાય કે વારંવાર શીખવીએ પણ એ નથી બદલાતા પણ ધીરજ ગુમાવ્યા વગર કરશો તો ચોક્કસ બદલાવ આવશે એ નક્કી અમે એ બદલાવ જોયો છે..

ખેર ભરથરી પરિવારોને મળેલા બીપીએલ રેશનકાર્ડથી એમને રાહત છે. એમને ઝડપથી પ્લોટ મળે તે પણ કરીશું ને ઘર પણ બાંધીશું.

 The ocean does not wear the pearls found in it. 

This line by poet Kaaag Bapu is very symbolic.

Most of nature’s elements use its own creations for the benefit of others. It is only a human who earns for himself and uses the earnings on himself. There is a very small minority of human beings who spend his earnings for the benefit of others.

One such nature’s creation is a Tree who lives its entire life for the benefit of others.

Life without trees is impossible. Yet we are irresponsible in taking its care and also not enthusiastic to grow more of it. Though there are some who love trees immensely.

We have created 166 forests in the villages of Banaskantha, Patan & Sabarkantha.  In these forests we have planted more than 8.50 lakh trees.

One such village is Fornna in Banaskantha, Very nice little village with a population of about 4000 people. The villagers invited us to plant trees in the village’s grasslands.

After worshipping the land, we planted 10000 trees. In this exercise we were helped by Mahendra Brothers Exports Pvt Ltd. Saunkabhai & Archanaben from the company also came personally to see how the plants have grown.

The respected elder of the village Fornna Shri Bhamarsinhji narrated how the temple built by VSSM will be an inspiration for others. He said many people pass through the village on foot. They find a place to rest in the shade in the village because of the many trees that grow in the village. Moreover when these people who sit in the shade will realise that they should similarly plant trees in their village. With such foresight he selected the place to plant the trees. Our friend of the tree also is a very nice person. His entire family works hard to take care of the trees. Mother Earth will be very happy with the efforts of Fornna village.

આમ તો પ્રકૃતિના તમામ તત્વો જે ઉપાર્જીત કરે તેનો ઉપયોગ અન્યોની સુખાકારી માટે કરે. એક માણસ જ એવો છે જે પોતે કમાય અને મહત્તમ પોતાના માટે જ વાપરે.. કેટલાક જુજ માણસો છે જેઓ કમાય તેનો મહત્તમ ભાગ અન્યો માટે ખર્ચે.

પ્રકૃતિના તત્વોમાંનું એક વૃક્ષ જેનું સમગ્ર જીવન જ અન્યોની સુખાકારી માટેનું.

વળી વૃક્ષ વગર જીવન પણ અશક્ય. છતાં આપણે એની જાળવણી અને નવા વૃક્ષો વાવવામાં એટલે ઉત્સાહી નહીં. 

જો કે કેટલાક અપવાદ છે.. જેઓ વૃક્ષોને ખુબ પ્રેમ કરે.. 

અમે 166 ગ્રામવનો બનાસકાંઠા,પાટણ અને સાબરકાંઠાના વિવિધ ગામોમાં કર્યા. જેમાં 8.50 લાખથી વધારે વૃક્ષો વાવ્યા એ પણ ઉછેરવાના સંકલ્પ સાથે.. 

એમાંનું એક બનાસકાંઠાનું ફોરણા. મજાનું ગામ. લગભગ 4000ની વસતિ. ગામે અમને ગામની ગૌચર જમીનમાં વૃક્ષો વાવી ઉછેરવા આમંત્રીત કર્યા.

પૂજન સાથે અમે 10,000 થી વધુ વૃક્ષો વાવ્યા. આ વૃક્ષ ઉછેરમાં મદદ કરી મહેન્દ્ર બ્રધર્સ એકસપોર્ટ્સ પ્રાઈવેટ લિ. મહેન્દ્ર બ્રઘર્સમાંથી આદરણીય સૌનકભાઈ અને અર્ચનાબહેન પણ વાવેલા વૃક્ષો કેવા ઉછર્યા તે જોવા આવ્યા. 

ગામના આગેવાન ભમરસિંહજીએ ફોરણામાં VSSM દ્વારા બનાવવામાં આવેલું વૃક્ષમંદિર આવનારા સમયમાં અન્યોને કેવી રીતે પ્રેરણા આપશે તેની વાત સરસ વાત કરી, ‘અમારા ગામમાં થઈને પગપાળા સંઘો ચાલે. ખુબ લોકો ચાલતા અમારા ગામમાંથી નીકળે. આ બધા લોકોને પોરો ખાવાની જગ્યા ભવિષ્યમાં અમારા ગામમાં મળી જશે.. પાછુ પોરો ખાવા બેસસે એટલે પોતાના ગામમાં આવી હરિયાળી કરવાના વિચારેય આવશે જ ને?’

આવી દીર્ઘ દૃષ્ટિ સાથે જ એમણે આ જગ્યા પસંદ કરી. અમારા વૃક્ષમિત્ર કાકા પણ મજાના. આખો પરિવાર ઝાડ મોટા થાય તે માટે ખુબ મથે…

ફોરણાગામના આ પ્રયાસથી મા ધરા રાજી થશે એ નક્કી…

Mittal Patel meets jinadada in Amreli

Dada do you cook yourself.

Of course I do but I cook only once for both times.

You learnt after your wife expired

No, I used to cook even when she was there as she was quite indisposed.

You must now be feeling quite lonely?

Yes.. though she was indisposed there was someone to talk to.

Zinadada stays in Bagsara village of Amreli. Zina in Gujarati means tiny. Like his name he is quite small. He has no children. He got a small house constructed from Government aid.  He lived his whole life labouring in the fields.Obviously this was not enough to provide for even his basic needs.  

He became old. Now he cannot work. Even if he wants to, no one will take him to work. Seeing his helpless condition, our associate  Rameshbhai thought of giving him our ration kit every month. ZinaDada has been getting the ration kit for the last 4 years. He now lives a relaxed life. 

He says that with proper food he can spend time praying to God. He believes that VSSM is taking care of him because of some divine connection. He says that in the present times one cannot expect one’s own to take care.

 ‘તે દાદા તમે જાતે રાંધો?’

‘હાસ્તો. પણ બે ટંક નથ રાંધતો. બપોરના બે ટંકનું ભેગું રાંધી નાખું.’

‘કાકી ગ્યાં પછી શીખ્યા?’

‘ના રે ના ઈ હતી તોય રાંધવાનું તો મારા ભાગે જ. એ બચારીને તો મંદવાડ હતો, તે એણે તો ઘણા વર્ષોથી ખાટલો પયકડેલો. એનેય હું જ રાંધીને ખવડાવતો.’

‘એ નથી તો હવે એકલું લાગતું હશે ને?’

‘હાસ્તો ભલે માંદી તો માંદી પણ એ બેઠી હોય તો વાતનો વીહામો રે’તો.’

ઝીણાદાદા અમરેલીના બગસરાના સાપરમાં રહે. નામ પ્રમાણે એમનું કદ એકદમ ઝીણું. એમને કોઈ સંતાન નહીં. વર્ષો પહેલાં સરકારી સહાયમાંથી બનેલા નાનકડાં ઘરમાં એ રહે.

આખી જીંદગી ખેતમજૂરી પર નભ્યા. પણ એમાં કાંઈ બે પાંદડે ન થવાય. બચત પણ ક્યાંથી થાય?

ઘડપણ આવ્યું. કામ થાય નહીં ને કરવું હોય તોય કોઈ લઈ ન જાય. લાચારી વેઠતા ઝીણાદાદાની સ્થિતિનો અમારા કાર્યકર રમેશભાઈને ખ્યાલ આવ્યો ને અમે એમને દર મહિને રાશન આપવાનું શરૃ કર્યું. છેલ્લા ચાર વર્ષથી રાશન મળતા દાદાના જીવને નિરાંત છે.

એ કહે, ‘રુપાળુ ખાઈ પીને હરી ભજુ. કાંક લેણું હશે એટલે જ તમે આમ હાચવો. બાકી આજે તો પોતાનાય નથ કરતા..’

આવા 600 નિરાધાર માવતરોને અમે દર મહિને રાશન આપીયે. તમે પણ આ સતકાર્યમાં સહભાગી થઈ શકો. એ માટે 90999-36013 પર 10 થી 6માં સંપર્ક કરી શકાય.

“I cannot beg. I do not like it.”

Then how do you survive ?

“Neighbours out of kindness & sympathy come & give food.”

What did you eat now ?

“I have some wheat flour, just enough for one meal, which I will cook in the evening.”

From this conversation, I could sense the condition of the family. I did not ask any more questions because it would make them sad.

 This is the condition of Valuma  from the village Machiyala in Amreli District. She had two sons. One got married and had 3 children. His wife expired when the youngest daughter was only 2 years old. Valuma took care of all the 3 kids & brought them up. Then the son also expired in 2021. He was the earning member of the family The second son renounced the world & became a Sadhu. Sadhu took care of the family. There was sorrow in the family but it seemed that it would be possible to survive. Then the other son also expired. 

This was just too much for Valuma & she broke down. She was old and had developed a big tumour in the throat. When we asked her about this , she said there is pain but she does not have the money to go to the hospital. She was also concerned that in case the diagnosis is serious who will take care of the kids she was now single handedly taking care of.

When we asked her how we can help her, she replied that she doesn’t like to ask for help. She added that whatever we felt at heart was right we can do.

Seeing us the neighbour said that the whole family of Valuma is in trouble because there is heavy leakage in the whole house. The neighbour requested that along with repairing the house if we can even build a toilet inside it would be a big relief to Valuma & family.

We decided to repair the house along with giving the food kit. 

Dr Aleem Adatiya of Jamnagar but now staying in Africa agreed to bear the entire cost of repairs.

For a food kit you all can also help.

When we left Valuma’s house we saw in the surroundings several concrete houses.If all staying in these buildings would have wished, it would have been easily possible to help Valuma. 

Like our Malabhai & Parthibhai said, it is not in everyone’s destiny to help the needy. We are thankful to Alimbhai for helping in this noble work.

We are also thankful to Kanubhai who was instrumental in taking us to Valuma. We were happy to see Valuma’s neighbour helping in the best way she could.

Our associate Rameshbhai will now take care of Valuma. We will try to get funds from the government under the guardian scheme. We will also help in getting the “antyodaya” card.

 ‘માંગવાનું હું નો કરુ. મને ઈ નો ગમે..’

‘તો ઘર કેમ હાલે?’

‘આજુબાજુમાં કોઈને દયા આવે તો દઈ જાય.. ‘

‘અત્યારે શું જમ્યા?’

‘એક ટંક ચાલે એટલો લોટ સે તે હાંજેકના રાંધશું!’

આટલી વાતથી પરિવારની દશા સમજાઈ ગઈ. એમને વધુ પુછીશું તો દુઃખ પહોંચશે એમ માની આગળ પુછવાનું ટાળ્યું. 

અમરેલીના માચીયાળાના વલુમા. એમને બે દિકરા હતા. એમાંના એકને પરણાવ્યો. એને ત્રણ બાળકો થયા ને એમની ઘરવાળી ગુજરી ગઈ. એ વખતે સૌથી નાનો દિકરો તો બે જ વર્ષનો. વલુમાએ જ આ ત્રણેયને ઉછેર્યા. બીજો દિકરો ભગત થઈ ગ્યો. ત્રણ સંતાનોના પિતા 2021માં ગુજરી ગયા. ઘરમાં કમાનાર મુખ્ય વ્યક્તિ જતો રહ્યો. ભગતની જેમ રહેતા દીકરાએ ઘરની જવાબદારી સંભાળી.. દુઃખ હતું પણ જીવી જવાશે એમ લાગતું હતું. ત્યાં વલુમાનો ભગત દિકરો પણ ગુજરી ગયો.

વલુમા હવે ભાંગી પડ્યા. એમની ઉંમર ઘણી. ગળામાં મોટી ગાંઠ હતી. અમે પુછ્યું. ‘બા શું થયું છે?’

જવાબમાં એમણે કહ્યું, ‘એ પીડા થયા કરે પણ દવાખાને બતાવવાના પૈસા ક્યાં? અને બતાવી દઉં ને કાંક ભારે નીકળે તો પછી આ છોકરાંઓનું કોણ?’

અમે શું મદદ કરીએ એવું પુછ્યું તો કહે, ‘મને માંગવું નથ ગમતું. તમને હૈયે બેહે ઈ કરો.’

અમને જોઈને પડોશમાં રહેતા એક બહેન અમારી પાસે આવ્યા ને એમણે કહ્યું, ચોમાસામાં આખો પરિવાર બહુ હેરાન થાય. ઘરમાં બધેથી પાણી પડે. જો ઘર રીપેર ને સાથે ટોયલેટ બાથરૃમ જેવું થઈ જાય તો એમને સાતા થઈ જાય.

રાશનની કીટ આપવાની સાથે ઘર રીપેરીંગનું કામ કરવાનું અમે નક્કી કર્યું.

જામનગરના અને હાલમાં આફ્રિકા રહેતા ડો. અલીમ અદાતિયાએ વલુમાના ઘરના રીપેરીંગનો તમામ ખર્ચ આપવા કહ્યું. 

રાશન માટે તમે સૌ પણ મદદ કરી શકો.. 

વલુમાને મળીને અમે નીકળી રહ્યા હતા ત્યારે જોયું તો વલુમા જ્યાં રહેતા તેમના ઝૂંપડાં આસપાસ ઘણા મજબૂત અને મોટા મકાનો બાંધેલા હતા. આ દરેક ઘરના વ્યક્તિએ ઈચ્છ્યું હોત તો વલુમાનું ઘર સરખુ કરવાનું આરામથી થઈ શક્યું હોત.

ખેર અમારા માલાભાઈ કે પરથીભાઈ કહે એમ, સદકાર્યોમાં નિમિત્ત બનવાનું સુખ બધાના નસીબમાં નથી હોતું… અલીમભાઈ એમાં નિમિત્ત બન્યા એ માટે આભાર.

વલુમા સુધી અમને કનુભાઈ લઈ ગયા. એમનો પણ આભાર. ને વલુમાના પડોશમાં રહેતા બહેન એમનાથી થતું કરે એ જોઈને રાજી થવાયું.

અમારા કાર્યકર રમેશભાઈ હવેથી વલુમાનું ધ્યાન રાખશે… બાળકોને પાલક માતા પિતા યોજના અંતર્ગત સહાય મળે તે માટે પણ કોશીશ કરીશું. સાથે અંત્યોદય રાશનકાર્ડ મળે તેમ પણ કરીશું.

પણ આવા કેટલાય પરિવારો છે જેમને આપણા ટેકાની જરૃર છે. અમે બધે નથી પહોંચી વળવાના. તમે પણ તમારાથી થાય તે ટેકો આવા પરિવારો દેખાય તો કરજો.. કોઈને સુખ આપવામાં નિમિત્ત બનવું એ સુખ બહુ મોટું..

Event was graced by Shri Mahendrabhai Munjpara, MLA  Shri Jagdishbhai Makwana, Collector and other  District officers

The Day of Freedom.

The bonded labourers were tortured a lot during British rule.  There was an uprising by this community against the mighty Britishers. They were convicted and imprisoned in jail. Our country became independent on 15th Aug 1947  but these bonded labourers were freed from the jail on 31st August 1952. They celebrate this day as the Day of Freedom. In Surendranagar this year the families celebrated the day. Our associates Shri Harshad Vyas & Jalpa Vyas organised it. Member of Parliament Shri Mahendrabhai Munjpara, MLA Shri  Jagdishbhai Makwana , Collector & other officers of the District remained present. Social worker Truptiben Shukla & others also graced the event.

I am obliged to our respected Chief Minister Shri Bhupendrabhai Patel who was very responsive to the problems of this community. He directed all his officers to pro-actively help. We are proud to have such a Chief Minister. We are extremely thankful to him .

Whatever the shortcomings of this community, the MP & the MLA promised to resolve them quickly. We are much obliged to them. 

We are hopeful that very soon all the problems of this community will be reduced and their lives will improve.

We will shortly start building homes for the 65 families. There is a tremendous support of the government administration.

Our associates Harshad & Jalpa are dedicated VSSM volunteers. I am proud of both. I hope they both progress in their lives and benefit many more families in times to come.

મુક્તિદિન..

વિમુક્ત જાતિઓ પર અંગ્રેજોના વખતમાં ખુબ અત્યાચાર થયો. અંગ્રેજો સામે બંડ પોકારવાનું આ જાતિઓએ કરેલું માટે જ તેમને ગુન્હાહીત ઘોષિત કરીને, વાડામાં બંધ કરી. 15 ઓગષ્ટ 1947ના રોજ દેશ આખો આઝાદ થયો.પણ વાડામાં જેમને કેદ કરેલા તે વિમુક્ત સમુદાયોને 31 ઓગષ્ટ 1952ના રોજ વાડાબંધીમાંથી મુક્તિ મળે માટે આ દિવસને મુક્તિદિન તરીકે ઊજવે. 

સુરેન્દ્રનગરમાં આ વખતે મુક્તિ દિનની ઊજવણી અમારા પરિવારોએ કરી. કાર્યકર હર્ષદ વ્યાસ તેમજ જલપા વ્યાસે આયોજન કર્યું જેમાં સંસદ સભ્ય આદરણીય શ્રી મહેન્દ્રભાઈ મુંજપરા ધારાસભ્ય અને વિધાનસભાના દંડક આદરણીય શ્રી જગદીશભાઈ મકવાણા તેમજ જિલ્લાનું વહીવટીતંત્ર આદરણીય કલેક્ટર શ્રી થી લઈને અન્ય અધિકારીગણ ખાસ હાજર રહ્યા. અમારા તૃપ્તીબેન શુક્લ અને અન્ય સમાજીક કાર્યકરો પણ કાર્યક્રમમાં હાજર રહ્યા.

આદરણીય મુખ્યમંત્રી શ્રી ભુપેન્દ્રભાઈ પટેલની આભારી છું. સુરેન્દ્રનગરમાં વિચરતી જાતિઓના પ્રશ્નો ઘણા પડતર છે. આ બાબતે એમનું ધ્યાન દોર્યું ને એમણે લાગણીપૂર્વક સૌને આ કાર્યમાં મદદ કરવા સૂચના આપી. આવા મુખ્યમંત્રી મળ્યાનું ગૌરવ છે… આપની લાગણી માટે આભારી છું. 

કલેક્ટર શ્રી તેમજ ધારાસભ્ય શ્રી અને સંસદસભ્ય શ્રીએ વિચતરી જાતિઓના જે પણ પડતર પ્રશ્નો છે તેનું નિરાકારણ ઝડપથી લાવવાની પણ ખાત્રી આપી.. આપ સૌ પ્રત્યે કૃતજ્ઞતા વ્યક્ત કરુ છું.

આશા રાખીએ આવનારા સમયમાં સુરેન્દ્રનગર જિલ્લામાં વસતા અમારા પરિવારોની મુશ્કેલીઓ થોડી હળવી થાય.

65 પરિવારોની કોલોની તો અમે થોડા જ દિવસોમાં બાંધવાનું શરૃ કરીશું. તંત્રનો એમાં ઘણો સહયોગ..
