| Mittal Patel meets nomadic families of Chaapi village |
“Even the birds have their nests, it’s only us who have nothing to call home!” Some nomadic families living in Chaapi had shared this with us with a heavy heart.
Later, the government had sanctioned residential plots for these families and Rs. 70,000 as construction assistance. They always said, no one from their precious 71 generations has stayed in a pucca house. Meaning no one in these communities have had the good fortune in staying in a brick and mortar house or have a permanent address to belong to.
Life of these 36 families was suddenly filled with hope because they had to build houses of their own. And as each one of us, they too aspired for big houses and designed accordingly. “So what if we are required to work overtime, we will only build big houses,” they had mentioned at that time.
However, families who survive on rusty occupations like knives sharpening or selling junk seldom manage to achieve their dreams. The construction cost they had calculated did not match the actuals. The assistance government provided and the amount they added remained insufficient to enable them to accomplish the construction project. Since we are like their own, these families reached out to us for support.
7 families began constructing the houses on their own, we provided whatever little economic support they required. However, the remaining 29 families requested us to build their houses.
Although there was a huge need for plots and houses for nomadic communities who now experienced the need to give up their itinerant more than ever. We approached our trusted well-wisher Shri Ujamshi Khandla for guidance on the design and cost of each house, the estimate for which came to Rs. 1.5 lacs each.
VSSM shared this need with its well-wishing friends and donors. Our dear Chainikabehen was the first to offer support. However, there was a substantial need for funds. Our dear Kesubhai Goti and Pareshbhai introduced us to Respected Dayalbhai (Kapu Gems) whose financial aid enabled us to construct houses for these families.
A conversation with our dear Bhavna Mehta (Auntie) led her to include respected Vimlabahen Mehta, Shri Vinay Shah, Shri Prabodh Mehta, Shri Mukesh Manek, Shri Raj Manek, Shri, Rajesh Mithalal all of whom went on to support these families.
Our dear Dhirenbhai Dalal of Caring Friends, who supports many of our activities led us to fetch aid from Global Worth Securities Pvt. Ltd.
Dear Rashi Gabaa, Shri Prashant Bhagat, Shri Sanjay Parekh, Amil Adaatiya, Giving Foundation, Shri Hemant Nimavat, Shri Rameshchandra Patel, Shri Viral Shah, Prakash Sakarlal Gandhi Charitable Trust, Shaishvi Kadakiya, Shri Nikunj Sanghvi and many well-wishing friends extended support for the construction of houses.
It is said, “Home means the end of the world, you need not look further!” The families who have been wandering for years will experience the feeling of ‘homecoming.’ We are grateful for the support you all have provided. And special thanks to Social Welfare Officer Shri H. S. Patel for the timely release of government assistance.

પંખીયોને પણ પોતાના માળા હોય બેન ત્યારે અમે એક જ ઘર વગરના..’ ભારે હૈયે #છાપીમાં રહેતા #વિચરતી જાતિના પરિવારોએ આ કહેલું.
એ પછી સરકારે એમને રહેવા પ્લોટ આપ્યા ને ઘર બાંધવા 70,000ની સહાય આપી. પોતાની 71 પેઢીમાં કોઈએ ક્યારેય ઘર ક્યાં ભાળ્યું હતું. જો કે બોલવામાં 71 બાકી એ પહેલાંનાય પાસે ક્યાં પોતાનું પાક્કુ સરનામુ હતું?
પહેલીવાર 36 પરિવારોના ઘર બનવાના હતા એટલે એમણે તો ખુબ મોટા ઘરનું આયોજન ક્યું. મહેનત મજુરી કરીશું પણ ઘર તો મોટા જ બાંધીશું એવું એમણે એ વખતે કહેલું.
પણ આજની મોંધવારીમાં છરી ચપ્પુની ધાર કાઢીને કે લારીમાં ભંગારનો ધંધો કરીને ઈચ્છીત ઘર બનાવવું મુશ્કેલ..એટલે એમણે કરેલી ગણતરી ખોટી પડી. સરકારની મદદ ને પોતાના ઉમેરીને બાંધેલું ઘર અઘરુ રહ્યું.
અમારા આ બધા પ્રિયજનો. તે એમણે મદદ કરવા વિનંતી કરી..
7 પરિવારોએ પોતાની રીતે ઘરો પૂર્ણ કરવાનું શરૃ કર્યું. અમે એમને આર્થિક ટેકો કર્યો. જ્યારે 29 પરિવારોએ તો તમે જ કરી આપો. અમારાથી હવે નહીં થાય એમ કહ્યું.
#વંચિત પરિવારોના બાંધકામના કાર્યોમાં અમને મદદકર્તા ઊજમશીભાઈ ખાંદલા પાસે એસ્ટીમેટ કઢાવ્યો લગભગ દોઢ લાખનો ખર્ચ એક મકાન પૂર્ણ કરવામાં લાગશે એવું એમણે કહ્યું.
VSSM સાથે સંકલાયેલા પ્રિયજનો સાથે આ બાબતે વાત કરી ને પ્રથમ પ્રિય ચૈનીકાબહેને મદદ માટે હાથ લંબાવ્યો. પણ જરૃર ઘણી હતી. પ્રિય કેસુભાઈ ગોટી અને પરેશભાઈએ આદરણીય દયાળભાઈ (કપુ જેમ્સ)ને મેળવ્યા ને તેમની મદદ મળી એટલે અમે કામ ચાલુ કરાવ્યું.
એ પછી વહાલા ભાવના મહેતા (આંટી) સાથે વાત થઈને એમણે ઘણા પ્રિયજનોને જોડ્યા જેમાં આદરણીય વિમલાબહેન મહેતા, શ્રી વિનય શાહ, શ્રી પ્રબોધ મહેતા, શ્રી મુકેશ માણેક, શ્રી રાજ માણેક, શ્રી રાજેશ મીઠાલાલ વગેરેને એમણે જોડ્યા.
એ સિવાય હંમેશાં VSSMના કાર્યોમાં મદદ કરતા પ્રિય ધીરેનભાઈ દલાલ – કેરીંગ ફ્રેન્ડસ થકી ગ્લોબલ વર્થ સીક્યુરીટી લી. ની મદદ મળી.
પ્રિય રાશી ગબા, શ્રી પ્રશાંત ભગત, શ્રી સંજયભાઈ પારેખ, અલીમ અદાતિયા, ગીવીંગ ફાઉન્ડેશન, શ્રી હરેશ નિમાવત, શ્રી રમેશચંદ્ર પટેલ, શ્રી વિરલ શાહ, પ્રકાશ સાકરલાલ ગાંધી ચેરીટેબલ ટ્રસ્ટ, શ્રી શૈશવી કડકિયા, શ્રી નિકુંજ સંઘવી સાથે અન્ય સ્વજનોએ પણ મદદ કરી ને આ પરિવારોના ઘરો બંધાવવાનું શરૃ થયું.
દુનિયાનો છેડો ઘર એવું આપણે કહીએ ત્યારે સદીઓથી રઝળપાટ ભર્યું જીવન જીવતા આ પરિવારોના નસીબમાં હવે ઘર થશે. આ માટે મદદ કરના સૌ સ્નેહીજનનો આભાર તેમજ સરકારી સહાય સમયસર ચુકવનાર સમાજ કલ્યાણ અધિકારી એચ.એસ.પટેલનો પણ આભાર…
